    Caring staff but many concerns

I have mixed feelings. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely caring-small, homey facility with lots of activities, bright rooms, and very good memory-care staff-which gives me peace of mind. However, it's expensive and I've run into billing errors/phantom charges, understaffing and occasional unresponsiveness or rough behavior, spotty cleanliness/odors, limited food variety/quality, and some safety/assistance concerns. I'm grateful for compassionate caregivers but would advise checking billing, staffing levels, and safety before deciding.

    About Brookdale Pinehurst

Brookdale Pinehurst is a senior living community that offers a range of care including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and hospice services, and it's set up as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) so residents can move between care levels as needs change, and there's always staff awake and on-site at all hours for safety and support. The campus has an entrance area, porch, indoor and outdoor common spaces, a theater, a dining room, a private restaurant-style dining room, a living room, and a common room, plus an activity room where residents can join in different hobbies, games, and social events both onsite and offsite such as yoga, gardening, devotional services, cooking classes, karaoke, trips, and trivia nights, while general counseling and wellness programs are also available. There are beautician and barber services on-site for hair care, and residents can bring their cats or dogs and get pet care, and meals are included with special diets like low or no sodium offered, while guests can join for meals. Memory care at Brookdale Pinehurst happens in a dedicated building that's secure with specialized dementia programs, personalized plans, structured social activities, secured entries, and bracelet technology to prevent wandering, and staff can support people with behavior challenges, physical challenges, or who are risk of wandering. The team can give medication reminders, help with daily needs such as bathing and dressing, handle blood sugar checks including sliding scale therapy for diabetes, assist with incontinence including reminders for restroom use, and provide transfers for residents who need physical help moving, using anything from standby help to two-person or mechanical lift transfers. Residents can enjoy home-style dining every day, and there's transportation available for shopping, outings, and doctor appointments, and residents can park their own cars if they want. Emergency response systems and keypad locks help keep everyone safe, and there's a focus on aging well-helping people do as much for themselves as they are able while getting support where it's needed. There are fees for moving in, and extra costs depend on the level of care and whether more than one person is living in a room or apartment. The staff work with each resident to create a care plan that fits their needs and update it over time, and there's a strong push to keep life social, interesting, and safe for everyone, whether in the common rooms or outdoors on the porches and walking paths, always trying to support independence, safety, and comfort as people age.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Pinehurst is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
