    Clean, friendly staff and comfortable

I'm very pleased with my stay. It's close to home, clean, smells fresh, and I had a private room with a bathroom; the food was satisfactory. The staff are friendly, caring and responsive-Latara and the PT team were fabulous, and nurses like Bridgette, Nina and Pauline really stood out. The place feels warm, well-run and community-focused, and I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but sharply polarized view of Edgecombe Health Center. Many families describe positive day-to-day experiences: attentive nurses and therapists, a robust rehab program with twice-daily therapy for some patients, a clean and well-maintained facility with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, satisfactory meals, and an active schedule of activities and entertainment. Several reviewers named individual staff members as particularly effective and compassionate, and noted a warm, residents-first culture among longstanding team members.

Contrasting these positive accounts are a number of serious clinical and operational concerns. Reviewers describe inconsistent responsiveness to call lights and requests for assistance, with particular problems cited overnight. There are multiple indications of variable bedside-care quality across shifts, including delayed assistance with feeding and personal care. Several comments point to significant gaps in clinical oversight related to nutrition and weight monitoring, and to instances that families perceived as inadequate fall-prevention or transfer-safety practices.

Communication and care transitions are recurring themes. Families reported difficulties obtaining timely updates by phone and uneven communication tone from some staff; a subset of reviewers characterized staff interactions as brusque or dismissive. There are also complaints about discharge planning and coordination with home-health services, which families associated with abrupt or poorly managed transitions. Separately, some reviewers alleged deceptive online review practices; this pattern may warrant additional scrutiny when evaluating public ratings.

Facilities, dining, and activities receive generally favorable comments: the building is described as clean and pleasant-smelling, with private rooms and a community atmosphere that some families found comforting. Rehabilitation and therapeutic staff are frequently praised for professionalism and effectiveness. Management and leadership receive mixed impressions — praised by families for strong administrators and visible caregiving culture in some cases, but criticized by others for insufficient oversight of clinical consistency and communication processes.

Overall, the pattern is one of pronounced variability: strong, compassionate care and effective rehab for many residents, alongside significant operational weaknesses that have produced severe concerns for other families. Prospective residents and families should consider in-person visits across multiple shifts, ask specific questions about overnight staffing, fall-prevention protocols, nutrition and weight-monitoring procedures, discharge planning, and how the facility handles family communication and complaints. Reviewing recent inspection records and speaking with current families may help clarify whether the strengths or the operational risks are most characteristic of the facility today.

    About Edgecombe Health Center

Edgecombe Health Center in Tarboro, North Carolina, sits at 1000 Western Boulevard and is a skilled nursing facility with 159 certified beds and an average of 129 residents each day, and folks there can get both short-term and long-term care services, including specialized treatments like rehabilitation therapy, respiratory therapy, and mental health care like psychiatry and psychoanalysis, and because it's under both Harborview Health Systems and Genesis HealthCare, you'll see a mix of services like Alzheimer's and dementia care, cardiac management, and even family planning and birth control clinics, and while some folks get referred from big hospitals like ECU Health Edgecombe and Duke, the center only has English-speaking staff, and office hours run from Monday through Friday, 8:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening, so people will need to work within those times if they want to speak with administrators like Caroline Flythe or Jamie Bell about the admission process, which requires a driver's license, Social Security card, insurance cards, and sometimes paperwork like advanced directives and power of attorney, and if someone needs help, staff spend about 3.33 nurse hours per resident per day, though nurse turnover runs high at 47.2% so folks might see new faces more often than they'd like, and as a faith-based facility prayer becomes part of each care plan, while those who move in get a care conference soon after they arrive to talk about their needs and goals, and the team at Edgecombe aims to work with families to plan for care and even uses electronic paperwork so things can move a little faster, and Estes Salons offers a place for residents to get personal care, but people should know there have been inspection reports listing some problems, like issues with how resident rights were handled and care planning, and a deficiency with infection control, so while there are programs in place to try to keep up the standard of care, it's worth considering how these things might affect daily life or decisions, and even though leadership wants to build strong relationships and keep things positive, the center doesn't currently take new patients, so anyone wanting a tour or to ask questions might have to wait a bit or keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.
