    Very positive experience, caring staff

I had a very positive experience here. The staff were genuinely caring, friendly, and communicative-Mark the administrator and the team went above and beyond. Therapy (PT/OT) and medical care were excellent, the facility was spotless and comfortable, and I felt supported like family; I would use their services again.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed but instructive picture. Many accounts highlight strong clinical rehabilitation services and a generally compassionate staff, while a smaller number of serious concerns point to variability in daily operations and leadership follow-through. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s documented clinical strengths against consistency and management issues when making decisions.

Care quality and clinical services: Several comments emphasize excellent physical and occupational therapy and effective hospice support; reviewers credited the therapy department with meaningful functional gains. Multiple accounts also noted that routine medical needs were met and that some staff went beyond expectations to provide personalized attention. However, a pattern of inconsistent care across different shifts emerges: daytime care is often described as attentive while evening-shift performance and medication timing drew criticism. There are also pronounced concerns related to end-of-life care and the facility’s communication after adverse events, which warrant direct inquiry during a tour.

Staff and management: Staff are frequently described as caring, friendly, and family-oriented; administration is also commended in places for being hands-on and accessible. The facility appears to foster a positive workplace culture for many employees, which can support continuity of care. Counterbalancing these positives are reports of variable staff conduct and tone, and statements indicating that management’s responsiveness to complaints can be limited. These items point to potential gaps in complaint-resolution processes and supervisory consistency.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The physical environment is repeatedly described as clean, well maintained, and orderly, although it is not consistently characterized as modern or new. Reviewers did not provide extensive detail about dining quality or the activity program, so there is limited evidence to assess those areas fully. Given the facility’s older infrastructure in places, families should ask specifically about amenity updates, recreational programming, and meal-service routines during a visit.

Notable patterns and guidance: Overall, the facility demonstrates clear strengths in rehabilitation, hospice, and interpersonal caregiving, supported by visible administrative involvement and a staff that many describe as going above and beyond. The principal operational risks are inconsistency across shifts, medication-timing reliability, variability in staff communication style, and gaps in management follow-up—along with concerns raised about end-of-life care and post-event communication. When evaluating this provider, ask targeted questions about staffing levels by shift, medication-administration protocols and documentation, incident escalation procedures, infection-control and outbreak communication practices, and how end-of-life situations are handled and communicated to families. A focused tour and specific follow-up on these topics will help determine whether the facility’s strengths align with a family’s priorities.

    About Altercare Summit Acres

Altercare Summit Acres sits in a quiet country setting between Cambridge and Marietta, in Caldwell, Ohio, close to I-77, where it offers a wide range of services for seniors so you get independent living apartments, assisted living, short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home health services, and a secured memory care unit known as Speret Hall, which is for people with Alzheimer's or dementia who need extra safety or structure, and it's all organized under one roof, which is pretty rare for southeast Ohio. The facility is certified for 95 beds, has about 84 people living there on most days, and has a nurse staffing level of 3.39 hours per resident per day, with nurses coming and going at a rate of 47.9%. People who live there can get help with everyday things like dressing, bathing, laundry, and meals, with most getting one or two meals served daily, along with housekeeping, 24-hour care, and the option to join in on wellness activities, recreation, or spiritual services, and there's a physician or nurse practitioner at the building five days every week and available the rest of the time if anything urgent happens. Residents who need physical, occupational, orthopedic, or stroke therapy can get those on site at the outpatient therapy area, and the memory care staff use special routines to help make daily life easier for people with memory trouble. There are also programs for respite care, long-term care, hospice, palliative care, and regular short-term rehabilitation. The property includes independent living apartments, usually for folks over 55, and assisted living units; both kinds are designed to let people pick how much help they want, whether that's basic supervision or more regular medical care, and anyone who qualifies can use government help like Medicaid, Medicare, the Ohio Assisted Living Waiver, or Social Security disability to help pay for care. Altercare Summit Acres is managed by Altercare Of Ohio, Inc. and is owned by Tsg Nursing Centers, Inc., and it's run as a for-profit operation. State inspections have found 56 total deficiencies, with 7 related to infection, and there have been issues in the past about reporting and responding to resident concerns, including cases of abuse, neglect, and failure to keep residents safe. The community aims to offer comfort and structure with regular activities, common areas for group events, and planned outings, and there are safety features to keep people secure, especially those with memory problems, but it's important to know the history of past deficiencies so families can make the best decisions for care. Each tier of living-from independent apartments to assisted living to skilled nursing and memory care-has its own space and staff, and the organization is part of the larger Altercare network, which operates other locations in the region. The setting remains rural and peaceful, with programs and supports tailored for varying senior needs, but it's wise to look closely at each service area to see if it fits what a resident or family is looking for right now.
