    Pleased with boutique dementia care

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased. The boutique, 16-resident setting feels like a clean, home-like, and safe place with gorgeous rooms and a beautiful dining room where the chef prepares fresh, farm-to-table meals. Phil (owner) and director Becca are hands-on and the caring, personable staff provide almost one-on-one, personalized dementia-friendly care, lots of activities, and on-site therapy services. It's well run, affordable compared with other options, and worth a visit - I recommend scheduling a tour.

    Summary of reviews

Thistle House presents as a small, boutique senior living option that emphasizes a home-like atmosphere and personalized care. The community’s limited census (around 16 residents) and high staff-to-resident ratio are central features: families describe individualized attention, familiar, family-style caregiving, and dementia-aware communication techniques. Clinical supports noted in reviews include an on-site nurse practitioner and access to physical, occupational, and speech therapy, paired with a designated memory-care team. These elements together suggest a model oriented toward close supervision and dementia-sensitive daily living rather than high-acuity institutional care.

Staff and management are repeatedly highlighted as strengths. Reviews emphasize engaged, compassionate caregivers and hands-on leadership from ownership and the director, who are described as accessible and responsive. This culture appears to foster strong resident–staff relationships, timely communication with families, and attention to detail in daily care. The operational model’s reliance on active, visible management contributes to a personalized environment but also implies potential operational risk if leadership changes or availability shifts.

Dining, activities, and facilities draw consistent praise. The facility is described as clean and newly built, with spacious private rooms and attractive common spaces, including a notable dining room. An on-site chef prepares fresh, farm-to-table meals; families report high food quality and a pleasant dining experience. Activity programming is varied for a small community: scheduled exercise and chair yoga, games throughout the day, themed social nights (bowling night), arts and crafts, outings, and occasional complimentary services such as massage. This combination supports social engagement and maintenance of functional abilities for residents who can participate in community programming.

There are operational limitations to weigh alongside the positives. The small size that creates intimacy can also mean limited bed capacity and potential waitlists. Compared with larger facilities, Thistle House may have less depth of on-site specialty medical coverage and fewer economies of scale for very specialized services; families with high-acuity clinical needs should verify staffing mix, overnight nursing coverage, emergency protocols, and transfer arrangements. Program variety may be constrained if a future resident cohort is larger or has markedly different interests/abilities than current residents.

Overall, Thistle House appears well suited for families seeking a small, home-like memory-care or assisted-living environment with attentive staff, strong leadership, high cleanliness standards, and quality dining and activities. Prospective residents and families should arrange an in-person visit, discuss clinical coverage and contingency plans with the director, confirm current availability or waitlist status, and review medication-management and emergency-response procedures to ensure the community matches the resident’s medical and social needs.

    About Thistle House Senior Living

Thistle House Senior Living offers a safe and welcoming place for older adults who want extra care and support in their daily lives, and the staff have some unique names and terms for their programs and rooms, which folks seem to remember. The community has features set up for comfort, with private and shared spaces, indoor common rooms, and outdoor walking paths and a garden, so there's always a spot to relax or visit with friends. People living here get access to several kinds of care, from daily help with bathing, dressing, and moving around, to assisted living and special memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and the staff make sure everyone has what they need, including 24/7 support and quick responses for emergencies.

Memory care blends cognitive activities with personal routines in a secure place, aiming to help with early stages of dementia and to keep folks safe from getting lost or confused, and that includes therapies and routines that match each resident's needs. Nurses keep an eye on wellness with regular checks, and there's medication management, help with doctors' visits, and pharmacy coordination too, so people get the right medicine at the right time. For those who can't move around easily, supervision and support are there, and a 24-hour call system plus emergency alert buttons sit throughout the building, just in case.

Dining here focuses on well-cooked, nutritious meals using fresh, seasonal foods, and the culinary team serves up farm-to-table dishes, custom breakfasts, and lighter lunches, with meal options for allergies or diabetes or other needs, all day long. There's a dedicated dining room for meals and snacks, and people can socialize or just unwind. The place stays clean with housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning, so folks aren't left doing chores, and move-in help makes getting started easier.

The activities keep people busy with movie nights, resident-led clubs, arts, and devotional gatherings, plus a bright social calendar loaded with recreational events, keeping minds and bodies active, and there's a common arts room for creative projects. Transportation helps people reach appointments or go out for errands, supporting independence, and parking is handy for those with cars. There's a salon and barber shop right on-site for hair and grooming, so no need to go far for a trim or a bit of pampering.

The environment gets described as warm, inviting, and clean, and staff members are known for being kind and joyful, bringing a sense of family to daily life, all while supporting both emotional well-being and companionship. Amenities include high-speed internet, flat-screen TVs, cable, and both indoor and outdoor areas made for calm and relaxation. Thistle House Senior Living suits folks needing different levels of daily help or memory support, offering services, staff, and comfortable spaces that focus on dignity, respect, and keeping life as full and pleasant as possible as residents age.
