    About Hilty Home

Hilty Home has served as a senior living community that tries to offer a comfortable and safe place for older adults. The property started out as Hilty Memorial Home back in 1979 and later joined Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio in 2012, carrying a focus on Christian values and care. The campus sits on over eight acres and has included independent living villas, assisted living apartments, skilled nursing, memory care, and even a child care and preschool center, with Amanda Dettrow managing the child care programs. People living there have a range of care choices, from independent living for active seniors to memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's. The community has offered meals, laundry, housekeeping, and nurses on site around the clock, taking care of things like medication, bathing, dressing, transfers, and help with moving between bed and wheelchair. Specialized programs have included diabetes management and care for people who need extensive medical attention. There's always been staff available 24/7 for emergencies, and call systems are in place for extra safety.

Hilty Home has hosted a calendar of activities like group exercise, movie nights, and special celebrations, all organized by a full-time coordinator. You'll find walking paths around gardens and parks, a library, arts room, swimming pool, wellness center, dining rooms, and spaces for socializing. Residents can eat restaurant-style meals, with options for special diets like reduced sugar, vegetarian, kosher, and gluten-free, and guests can join for meals too. Furnished rooms have been available with amenities like telephones, kitchenettes, air conditioning, and cable TV. The on-site child care center continues to offer intergenerational opportunities, even while other senior services have changed or closed, and has rooms for kids from six weeks to 12 years old, providing child-centered, Christian-based lessons and play.

Staff and caretakers have always focused on offering personalized help and recognizing individual needs, and the community has received awards for best meals, activities, and friendliness. There's been a barber and salon, transportation services, organized events, and spaces to encourage residents to meet new people and enjoy hobbies. Support for mild cognitive impairment and dementia has been part of the approach, along with skilled nursing care for those with more serious medical problems. While leadership and ownership have shifted in recent years-including a sale to EZ Properties and ongoing renovations-the history and mission to honor Margaret Hilty's legacy has remained part of the property's identity. The facility is handicap accessible and has high-speed internet throughout, and the preschool is expected to resume in September 2024, keeping alive both the childcare and community values long held at Hilty Home.
