    Compassionate, clean, effective rehabilitation care

I placed my grandmother here and have been very pleased. The admissions team, nurses, CNAs, therapists and social worker were professional, compassionate and responsive-meds and calls were timely, rehab was effective, and the therapy gym and equipment were clean. Our roomy, hotel-like private room with a balcony was spotless, housekeeping and activities were attentive, administration was accessible, and the community felt welcoming and family-like; I would recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Carriage Inn of Steubenville elicits a mixture of strong praise and notable operational concerns. Positive themes center on cleanliness, facility upkeep, and a generally welcoming physical environment: many families described roomy private rooms (some with balconies), recent cosmetic updates, and orderly common areas. Housekeeping, beautician services, and availability of meeting and exercise rooms are consistently cited as strengths. The therapy department and therapy gym receive frequent commendation for professional, effective rehabilitation services, and social work/discharge support is often framed as helpful and empathetic.

Clinical staff receive polarized feedback. Numerous reviewers praised attentive, timely aides and knowledgeable nursing staff, as well as a well-regarded medical director. Several accounts highlight fast call-response times, thorough daily care tasks, and successful short-term rehab outcomes. Conversely, a sizable set of reviews describe communication breakdowns at points of care transition — particularly during discharge planning — and express concerns about staff tone and responsiveness. These accounts include delayed orders, missed clinical documentation, and situations where families felt they needed to advocate strongly for their loved one.

Care-process themes point to operational inconsistencies. Reported weaknesses include medication-management variability, episodes of regressions in mobility tied to transfer or lift practices, and gaps in continuity when therapy staff change or when a resident is described as uncooperative. There are multiple references to delayed or incomplete handoffs (orders not sent, delayed oxygen), and to inconsistent carryover of therapy instructions after discharge. A limited number of reviews raise serious individual allegations related to staff conduct, privacy, and complaint handling; those raise questions about complaint transparency and leadership responsiveness that prospective families should probe directly.

Dining and daily living are mixed. Many reviewers say the staff are responsive to dietary concerns and willing to adjust menus, and some find meals acceptable; others note inconsistent meal temperature and an emphasis on processed options. Activities programming is generally described as friendly and valuable for resident engagement, although pandemic-related limitations reduced offerings in some periods.

Facility management and workplace environment are described unevenly. Several reviewers praise an accessible administrator and supportive management presence; others describe a stressful work environment with staffing shortages and morale issues. These operational pressures are aligned with reports of delayed assistance or inconsistent care at times. Prospective families should ask management about current staffing levels, turnover, and processes for handling clinical incidents and family complaints.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: consider Carriage Inn when short-term rehabilitation, a strong therapy program, and attentive housekeeping are priorities, but perform focused due diligence on discharge planning, medication oversight, transfer-safety protocols, and the facility’s complaint-resolution practices. Visiting, speaking with the therapy and nursing leaders, reviewing current staffing ratios, and requesting recent quality or incident logs will help clarify whether the facility’s operational gaps have been addressed.

There's laundry service to handle clothes and all the linens, and people don't have to worry about cleaning since housekeeping keeps things in order.
