    Unbelievable staff, spectacular grounds, excellent

I can't say enough about Good Shepherd - the staff were unbelievable: friendly, caring, and always helpful. The facility and grounds are spectacular with a charming Victorian feel; the dining room is beyond beautiful and the food was excellent. Comfortable room options, plenty of activities (choir, outings, holiday events), and convenient to the hospital. When my loved one needed to come back home, this is where I'd go again.

About Elmhurst - The House Of Friendship

Elmhurst - The House Of Friendship sits at 1228 National Road in Wheeling, West Virginia, where it's been a part of the community since 1890, and you'll find the setting in a historic Victorian mansion from 1902, now a licensed non-profit assisted living facility for older adults that's classified as an elderly residential living facility with tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status, and you know, it's rather unique because it has 48 beds in a medium-sized community and offers assisted living, independent living, memory care, and rehabilitation services, as well as in-home care services, so you'll see they try to cover about all the types of care an older person might need as their situations change, and you get to pick from studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, or even suites, some with private spaces and some with communal living areas, which works for different needs and budgets.

Elmhurst features landscaped gardens and comfortable living areas, with a mid-rise building that's both pet-friendly and offers transportation services, and when you consider all the amenities they have, like fine dining, housekeeping, an on-site beauty salon, and in-house Blue Sky Physical Therapy, you see they put an emphasis on daily comfort and keeping up with your health needs, plus you'll find resident parking and complimentary transportation for those trips out and about, and then the meals are provided, which makes things simpler for many residents, and you get both onsite and offsite activities, with a structured program full of social, educational, and entertaining activities, and they even offer devotional services offsite for those who want that, and it's not uncommon to see a lot of social events especially for independent living residents, with plenty of chances to make friends and stay busy, as they put it, focusing on "friendship" as a part of the atmosphere.

The staff includes Sarah Shia, a student employee, Cameron Jones, an attendant, Jonathan Droginske as office manager, and Jamie Crow as executive director, and the whole team generally numbers between 2-10 people, but they work to keep things personal and supportive, and families do tend to stay in close contact through the process, which helps when it comes to making residents feel that sense of belonging, comfort, and security, and Elmhurst is also a senior continuing care community, so if someone starts in independent living but finds they need more care, they don't necessarily have to move out, which can be a relief. On-site medical support from registered nurses, LPNs, and resident assistants is available 24/7 for those who need it, keeping health and daily needs covered, and Elmhurst is known for a high community rating of 9.8 out of 10, the highest in Wheeling, according to reviews, and it stands out in the Ohio County Public Library's historical resources because of its long history and its part in Wheeling's architecture.

The campus and building highlight both history and up-to-date amenities, and there are indoor common areas and outdoor gardens to enjoy, making it easy for folks to spend time together or have quiet moments on their own. The community's always tried to include residents and staff in a culture of friendship and belonging and encourages both personal growth and social connection. Elmhurst - The House Of Friendship keeps the focus on comfort, safety, and giving people choices as they age, all while remaining an important, well-known part of Wheeling for well over a century.
