    Excellent post-surgery care, attentive staff

My mom stayed here for post-surgery rehab and we were very pleased. The nurses and rehab teams (Randy, Karen, Stacia, Rowena and Ayramus) were attentive and coordinated care well, the food and customer service were excellent, and her recovery progress was strong. The facility was clean, staff were friendly and supportive - I would choose them again and highly recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Avamere Rehabilitation of Hillsboro present a mixed picture. Many families and patients praised the caregiving and therapy teams, citing compassionate staff, effective physical and occupational therapy, and successful rehabilitation outcomes. Positive comments also highlighted helpful discharge coordination, good coordination with outside providers, friendly customer service, and generally clean and well-maintained common areas. These strengths suggest the facility can deliver solid rehabilitation results when staffing and communication are functioning well.

At the same time, a recurrent set of operational problems appears across reviews. Staffing shortages and variability—particularly overnight and on weekends—are frequently cited and correlate with delayed responses to call lights, voicemails, and simple resident requests. Several reviewers described inconsistent nursing follow-through and lapses in medication monitoring or pain control, which point to gaps in clinical care coordination. There are also multiple references to infection- and wound-management issues and concerns about transfer safety, indicating areas where clinical protocols and supervision may need reinforcement.

Dining and environmental issues are another consistent theme. Some reviewers described good meals and attentive dining service, while others reported inconsistent food quality, poorly timed or cold meals, and limited menu options. Facility-level maintenance needs were also noted: aging rooms, broken fixtures, unsanitary areas in some bathrooms or showers, and odor concerns in certain spaces. Privacy limitations tied to shared rooms and bathrooms were raised repeatedly and may be important for families who prioritize private accommodations.

Communication and management practices drew mixed feedback. Positive experiences often mention clear, helpful communication and strong care coordination, but many reviews describe poor communication between shifts and with families, misplacement of personal items, and confusing or inconsistent discharge instructions. Several comments point to workplace-culture issues—staff morale, in-hall arguments, and management prioritizing admissions over continuity of care—that can affect day-to-day operations. There were also serious individual claims that attracted regulatory attention and an allegation regarding inaccurate clinical documentation; these merit specific inquiry by prospective families.

Practical takeaways: prospective residents and families should weigh the facility's demonstrated rehabilitation strengths against recurring operational weaknesses. When considering Avamere Hillsboro, ask targeted questions about current staffing ratios (including nights and weekends), infection- and wound-care protocols, meal-service processes, rooming/privacy options, procedures for handling personal items, and how the facility communicates updates to families. Visiting in person, meeting the therapy team, and requesting recent staffing/quality metrics will help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with your priorities and whether the operational concerns have been addressed.
