    Beautiful facility with caring staff

I live here and highly recommend it. The facility and grounds are beautiful and well-kept, apartments are roomy and comfortable, and meals are tasty with good choices. The staff and leadership (LySandra, Andrew, Heather) are caring, knowledgeable, and truly go above and beyond - I feel safe, welcomed, and enjoy the many activities and events.

    Summary of reviews

McKay Creek Assisted Living is generally described as an attractive, well‑maintained community with spacious apartments and thoughtfully landscaped grounds. Many reviewers highlight the facility’s welcoming atmosphere, decorated common areas, patio mini‑gardens, and comfortable living spaces with good views. The property’s aesthetic appeal and cleanliness are recurring positives, and several comments emphasize a sense of safety and a home‑like environment.

Staff and caregiving are among the facility’s strongest themes. Reviewers frequently describe staff as kind, caring, and attentive; leadership and specific administrators (including the assistant director) are named positively for being knowledgeable and welcoming. Families and residents often characterize the staff–resident relationship as familial, with staff going above and beyond to help. That said, there are occasional accounts of inconsistent staff friendliness and communication; prospective families may wish to ask about staffing levels and turnover during a visit.

Dining is another prominent area of mixed feedback. Many residents praise home‑style, flavorful meals, a varied menu, and pleasant dining‑room interactions (including social table seating and small touches like cookies after services). Conversely, some reviewers report inconsistent food quality, menu items running out, and concerns about the value relative to meal pricing. For decision making, it may be helpful to sample a meal, review how meal charges are applied, and ask about substitution and inventory policies.

The activity program is active and often praised for social engagement: residents note frequent events, exercise classes, holiday activities, a Round Up BBQ, casino night, and occasional kid‑friendly programming. These offerings support an engaged social community for many residents. However, there are also comments about limited outings and variability in activity leadership; some families perceive uneven programming depending on staff assignment. Clarifying the weekly activity calendar and transportation/outings schedule can help set expectations.

Operationally, most reviewers find the facility clean and well cared for, but several mention maintenance issues and slower response times for repairs. Admissions and financial communication is another area with mixed feedback: while leadership is praised in many accounts, there are allegations of unclear or misleading information around payer eligibility and benefits discussions. Prospective residents should request written explanations of payment options, Medicare/Medicaid eligibility guidance, and a clear maintenance‑request process.

Overall, McKay Creek appears to be a well‑regarded assisted living option with strong interpersonal care, attractive facilities, and an active social environment. The main patterns to verify during a tour are dining consistency and cost/value, the reliability and scope of activities, responsiveness to maintenance requests, and clarity of admissions/benefits communication. Those who prioritize a warm staff culture and pleasant grounds are likely to be satisfied; families focused on consistent dining or specific activity/outings schedules should investigate those areas in person.

    About McKay Creek Assisted Living

McKay Creek Assisted Living sits at 1601 County 1303 Rd in Pendleton, Oregon, you'll notice right away how clean the place is and how the staff seems to care about everybody's needs, and folks get to know each other, because the team there treats residents like they're their own family, which makes people feel at home and comfortable enough to relax in the nicely updated interiors, and with so many activities, like live music every week, arts and crafts, resident musical groups, wellness classes, educational opportunities, and fun events such as the Round Up BBQ and casino nights, people always seem to find something to do and somewhere to belong. The community offers personalized care, including medication administration, Alzheimer's care, respite care, restaurant-style dining with chef-prepared meals, and apartments meant to feel like your own home, with options for single or studio rooms, some even letting you have a pet, and you can often spot people chatting in the large common rooms or out walking through the well-kept outdoor spaces surrounded by trees and paths. The Activities Director and Assistant Director often get comments for doing a good job, and you'll notice staff is available around the clock to help, backed up by a history of service since the year 2000 and caregivers and nurses who know their jobs. Being across from CHI St. Anthony Hospital and near clinics makes it easy to get medical care if you need it, and with regular transportation, access to a gym, offsite trips, church services, on-site haircuts or barber visits, free WiFi, and a focus on safety, people can keep some independence while still getting support.
