    Caring staff and engaging programs

I was very pleased with the caring, attentive staff, clean well-kept rooms, and strong rehab and activity programs that kept my loved one engaged. The warm, welcoming atmosphere with on-site therapy, salon and social events made this a very good, reliable place for senior care that I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers present a mixed but detailed picture of Christ the King Manor. Many families and former residents praised the caregiving team and therapy staff, describing nursing aides and RNs as compassionate and well trained. The facility’s rehabilitation program and on-site physical/occupational therapy receive consistent positive remarks; short-term rehab experiences were frequently characterized as effective and motivating. Individual clinical staff and physicians were often singled out for positive performance, and several reviewers described strong, attentive hands-on care.

Staffing and operational consistency emerge as the principal area of variability. Multiple accounts note intermittent staffing shortages and variability in professionalism and responsiveness between shifts. These staffing fluctuations are connected in some reports to service delays and gaps in timely assistance. A small number of more serious accounts raise concerns about conduct, incident response, and resident safety; these descriptions suggest families should inquire directly about clinical-incident protocols, staff training, and oversight during a tour.

Dining and dietary management show mixed feedback. The community runs communal dining and special food events that many residents enjoy, and some reviewers praised specific meals and activities such as barbecues. At the same time, there are consistent references to inconsistent meal quality, lapses in adherence to dietary restrictions (for example diabetes management), and variable dining-assistance practices. A subset of comments also points to food-safety and storage lapses; prospective families should ask about kitchen oversight, inspection histories, and special-diet procedures.

Activities and social environment are clear strengths: reviewers describe diverse programming (crafts, bingo, social events), an on-site worship service, and an atmosphere that supports friendship and belonging. Facility upkeep is generally described positively — reviewers commonly mention clean, well-maintained common spaces and private rooms. On-site amenities such as a salon and multi-level living options (apartments, small homes, skilled nursing) contribute to the facility’s appeal for a range of needs.

Administrative areas warrant advance inquiry. Several families experienced billing or business-office challenges and recommend clarifying financial processes, account review procedures, and points of contact before move-in. Communication between families and management is uneven in accounts; asking how the facility communicates incident updates, care-plan changes, and staffing issues can help set expectations.

In summary, Christ the King Manor receives strong praise for its rehabilitative services, engaged activity program, and many compassionate caregivers, along with generally well-maintained facilities and meaningful social opportunities. However, there are notable inconsistencies in staffing, dining management, and administrative communication, and a limited number of serious safety and conduct concerns. Prospective residents and families should use tours and meetings with leadership to evaluate staffing patterns, dietary and medication safeguards, incident-response procedures, and billing practices to determine fit and mitigations for the identified risks.

    About Christ the King Manor

Christ the King Manor sits on West Long Avenue in DuBois, Pennsylvania, and has served seniors since 1971 as a nonprofit organization, offering a wide range of care levels under a Continuum of Care Retirement Community model, meaning residents can move between independent living, personal care, skilled nursing, and therapy services as their needs change, with home support and respite care also available, and the staff's main job is to support residents and their loved ones with kindness and professionalism, providing help with everything from daily living tasks to advanced medical and rehabilitative care, including memory care for people living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. The community features outdoor living areas, indoor common areas for social activities, air conditioning throughout, and is wheelchair accessible, while meals and dining services serve nutritious food in a dining room that also hosts community events like polka parties, so there's truly a blend of social, spiritual, and physical activities that keep everybody as engaged as they want to be, with religious activities and access to Catholic Mass and sacramental records for those who want them.

Residents can choose from independent living cottages or apartments, both designed for comfort and security, with amenities such as fully equipped kitchens, walk-in showers, garages, and exterior and interior maintenance included in a single monthly fee, so folks don't have to worry about lawn care, snow removal, insurance, or taxes, with added security and optional emergency call systems for peace of mind, and the apartments also offer washers and dryers, private balconies or porches, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, and are all handicapped-accessible, though pets aren't allowed and all areas remain non-smoking for everyone's health. There's plenty of free outdoor parking, plus an optional indoor garage, and each resident has access to a Community Center with a dining room, fitness center, beauty shop, and lending library, along with card games, morning exercise groups, and evenings filled with dining and entertainment, not to mention weekly and yearly celebrations like Personal Care Week and Environmental Services Week that honor the work of staff and the spirit of residents.

Deficiency-free state surveys for 2025 and recognition by Newsweek as one of the Best Nursing Homes back up the level of care found here, and on-site health services include diabetic care, incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, therapy, and regular visits from healthcare professionals, while privacy and health information confidentiality are always a priority. The whole campus is structured for easy movement, with elevators, covered entrances, 24-hour security, visitor hours at any time, fully accessible communal and private spaces, and activities designed to keep minds, bodies, and spirits active, whether residents are gardening outside, joining devotional activities, or simply enjoying the comfort of a supportive and engaged community.
