    Bright clean welcoming caring home-like

I've been very pleased with this small, home-like facility - bright, clean, attractively decorated with lovely courtyard views. The staff are professional, caring and communicative; they helped with the transition, manage meds, and keep residents engaged with daily activities, volunteers and church services. My parent is happy and well cared for; I would recommend this welcoming, well-run place.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews indicate a facility with many strengths in daily living, hospitality, and social engagement alongside several operational concerns that prospective families should evaluate. Many families praised the staff's compassion, professionalism, and personal attention; reviewers consistently described clear communication with families, supportive assistance during move-in, and a small, home-like community feel. The facility's interior and outdoor spaces are frequently described as clean, bright, attractively decorated, and well maintained, contributing to resident comfort and satisfaction.

Care and staff: Care quality is highlighted by frequent comments about attentive nursing, medication management, and respectful staff–resident relationships. Reviewers noted staff empathy, timely clinical updates, and strong connections to therapy and hospice providers, with several families specifically citing peaceful and supportive end-of-life care. At the same time, reviewers raised operational concerns: staffing shortages and turnover were described as recurring issues, and there are broader concerns about conduct and accountability in management. A small number of reviews raised serious allegations relating to security and staff behavior; these point to potential gaps in how incidents and complaints are investigated and resolved.

Dining and activities: Activity programming is a clear strength — daily, varied social offerings, volunteer-led gatherings, and faith-based events were frequently mentioned as contributing to resident engagement and well-being. The courtyard and outdoor areas were also cited as valuable community amenities. Dining impressions are mixed: some residents enjoyed the meals and entertainment, while others described inconsistent food quality. Prospective families should plan a meal observation to assess fit.

Facilities and operations: The physical plant is generally praised for cleanliness, attractive décor, and a home-like scale with private-room options and ensuite bathrooms. However, operational issues include limited on-site memory-care or higher-acuity capacity and occasional inflexibility in environmental controls (for example, thermostat settings). Reviewers also described relocation and transfer processes that have, in some cases, led to resident distress, suggesting that transfer protocols for residents with cognitive impairment may need closer review.

What to watch for: Given the mix of strong day-to-day caregiving and the more serious operational concerns raised, prospective residents and families would benefit from asking targeted questions during a tour: current staffing ratios and turnover, memory-care capacity and transfer protocols, incident-investigation and complaint-resolution procedures, recent dining menus or food-sampling opportunities, and policies on environmental controls. Overall, the facility appears to offer a warm, well-maintained environment with strong interpersonal care, but families should confirm that its clinical and management practices match their expectations, particularly for higher-acuity needs or dementia care.

About The Addison of Moorehead Place

The Addison of Moorehead Place sits northeast of Pittsburgh and welcomes seniors looking for both independence and care. The community offers assisted living and memory care alongside services for those who need personal care, short-term stays, or even independent living and nursing home options, so folks can find what fits best as their needs change. Residents get access to help 24 hours a day, with staff ready to assist with daily needs like bathing, dressing, or taking medicine, and there's a button system in rooms so everyone can call for help if they need it, which can give a lot of peace of mind for families and residents alike.

The place feels friendly and warm, with plenty of spaces indoors and out, including several small areas for puzzles or reading, an inner courtyard and walking paths, a piano lounge, a private library, and fire elements like lounge fireplaces. Apartments come in studios or one-bedrooms, and each has a private bath, with the spaces kept clean and well maintained by housekeeping and laundry services. Meals are made by a culinary team with menus that keep nutritional needs in mind, served in a dining room where residents choose from rotating choices. If someone needs something special, private dining rooms are available, and there's always staff there to help.

There's no shortage of things for residents to do, with onsite activities, fitness classes, social and hobby clubs, creative workshops, musical events, devotional services, and off-site trips-so people can stay as busy as they like. The staff encourages folks to join group events or just relax in one of the lounges, garden areas, patios, or the porch, and it sounds like people and their pets both feel right at home since the community welcomes pets. Regular amenities include a hair and nail salon, guest rooms for visitors, scheduled transportation, and help with groceries and mail, all supported by a concierge-style approach for those who want a bit more organization in their day.

Residents have access to physical and occupational therapy on-site, preventive health screenings, and personal care when needed, which helps them feel confident and keeps their independence whenever possible. The staff here seem known for being caring and pleasant, helping keep the atmosphere positive and supportive, and there's a strong emphasis on making sure each person is treated with dignity and choice, whether that's related to care plans, meals, or activities. While The Addison of Moorehead Place doesn't post its prices online, the wide range of services, amenities, and types of care seem to offer a flexible setup for many different needs and stages of aging, with a touch of historic character and modern comforts in a bright, welcoming setting.
