    Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, community

I'm very pleased with my experience - the staff are wonderful, my upgraded room is comfortable, and the dining area is clean and nicely decorated with a hotel-like feel. Activities (card games, exercise classes, church services, birthday parties) use a spacious main meeting room, there's a call button in every room, and plenty of places to be together, so overall I'm very satisfied.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed picture of Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. Positive descriptions focus on the facility environment and social life: families and residents describe a hotel-like interior, spacious rooms, a clean and attractively decorated dining area, and an onsite main meeting room used for activities. A broad range of group programming is available, including card games, exercise classes, church services, birthday celebrations, and seasonal community events. The layout and amenities appear to support communal interaction, and basic safety features such as a call button in every room are noted.

Clinical care and staffing are the principal areas of concern. Several reviewers raised issues consistent with understaffing, with particular emphasis on night-shift coverage and limited nursing presence during full occupancy. Those concerns are associated with operational weaknesses such as inconsistent clinical assessment, delayed recognition of infections, and variability in pain and symptom management. Reviewers also noted that physician presence is limited to monthly visits, which may constrain timely medical oversight between visits.

Communication and management practices are another recurrent theme. Families described instances of poor handoffs and miscommunication between shifts or departments, and some expressed frustration with administrative responsiveness. A number of comments framed staffing choices in the context of reimbursement models, suggesting that resource allocation has at times prioritized appearance and amenities over staffing levels and clinical coverage.

Dining and activities were more consistently praised than clinical operations. The dining facility and event programming are strengths for social engagement and quality of life. Staffing and care concerns suggest prospective residents and families should closely evaluate clinical staffing ratios, night coverage plans, fall-prevention and infection-detection protocols, medication and pain-management procedures, and the frequency of medical practitioner rounds. Asking administrators for recent staffing metrics, examples of clinical incident response protocols, and a tour during a mealtime or activity period can help assess how the facility's operational patterns align with an individual resident's care needs.

    About Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg

Lutheran Home At Hollidaysburg sits in a quiet spot at 916 Hickory St, Hollidaysburg, PA, and offers many options for older adults looking for a mix of care and independence, with choices like independent living in cottages and apartments, assisted living, memory care, and 24-hour skilled nursing, and you'll find that it's run by ALSM, a not-for-profit faith-based group connected to the Lutheran Church. The community has one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartment or condo units, all with full kitchens, bath and shower in the bathrooms, and plenty of natural light, as well as cottages that give residents single-floor living and lots of space, and there's parking and storage available too, which is nice, especially if someone still drives. Residents control their room's temperature and can bring pets in apartments or cottages if they follow some guidelines and pay a small deposit and a monthly fee.

There are many support services available, such as laundry and cleaning, an on-site pharmacy, a salon, and help with bathing, medications, or getting around, along with professional medical help from registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nurse aides, plus outside specialists come in for things like therapy or counseling. The staff keeps up with medical needs, offer different types of therapy including physical, speech, and occupational, and there's skilled nursing for those who need closer care or are recovering from surgery, strokes, or injuries, even people who need help with IVs, nutrition, or psychological assessments get help here. Residents in independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing get personal care plans, and the campus has a 24-hour call system for emergencies, and regular screenings help caregivers notice changes in someone's health.

Life at Lutheran Home At Hollidaysburg includes plenty of things to do, from gardening beds and walking paths outside, to activities like arts, music, fitness classes, enrichment programs that help with memory and movement, movie nights, and other community events or trips into town, and the resident-run groups help new people meet each other and make friends. There are gathering areas, a library, lounges, and private dining rooms, so there's always somewhere to spend time with guests or other residents. Those who need religious services can attend weekly Lutheran worship on campus, and spiritual care's part of the routine, which matters a great deal to some folks. Dining happens in a large community room with meals from a professional chef, plus there's restaurant-style dining, in-room kitchens, and options for special diets for allergies or diabetes. Housekeeping, linen service, and move-in help are provided, and transportation's available for errands or appointments outside the community, so it's pretty convenient for most needs.

The Hillcrest apartments recently got updates and now include Wi-Fi, cable, all utilities, medical alert systems, laundry on each floor, and community storage, along with a community lounge and courtyard, and cottages include things like snow removal, lawn care, and maintenance. The place is CARF-accredited, which means it meets certain national quality standards, and it's one of just two continuing care retirement communities in the county that earned this. The campus keeps a focus on safety, with emergency buttons in independent living apartments and safety measures like grab bars and plenty of space. People can keep their independence as long as possible, but if things change, the staff work with the residents to move them to the right level of care.

All in all, the Lutheran Home At Hollidaysburg offers a wide list of amenities and solid healthcare services, supports both independent adults and those who need more help, and tries to create a friendly, faith-centered, and active community for people aged 55 and older.
