    Confident in compassionate clean care

I'm pleased with the care my mother receives-kind, attentive nurses and wonderful daily staff support. The facility is very clean, rooms are nice, laundry is done and sanitized daily, and there's a beauty shop; Kate was especially helpful and explained everything. They provided personal contact info, a mailing address, and a donation request, and overall I feel confident leaving my mom here.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer feedback for St Jude's Haven presents a mix of clear strengths and operational concerns. Positive comments center on the facility’s cleanliness, daily laundry service and sanitized laundry area, pleasant resident rooms, and available amenities such as an on-site beauty shop. Several accounts highlight compassionate, communicative staff and attentive nursing care, and some families describe strong, person-focused interactions between staff and their loved ones.

Care quality shows a divided picture. Families praised the bedside manner and day-to-day caregiving from many nursing and support staff, but there are recurring process concerns that could affect clinical reliability. Reviewers describe interruptions or gaps in medication administration and indicate unpredictability in overnight staffing levels; these issues suggest potential vulnerabilities in medication-management and coverage protocols that prospective families should review closely.

Dining and activities information is limited and mixed. One account criticized meal quality and choices, indicating inconsistent dining standards; at the same time, the presence of a beauty shop and references to staff engagement suggest some on-site services and social supports are available. Prospective residents should ask the facility for current menus, dietary accommodations, and a schedule of recreational or social activities.

Facility condition and maintenance are described in both positive and negative terms. The building and rooms are characterized as clean and well-kept, with routine laundry services and sanitation practices noted. However, reviewers also raise sanitation and plumbing maintenance concerns that impacted resident areas, and extended outages of the call/alert system were cited. These maintenance and infrastructure issues point to gaps in facility upkeep and emergency/assistance readiness.

Management and communication patterns are another area of concern. Comments reference unmet commitments and inconsistent follow-through on care plans, as well as concerns about the tone of administrative communication in at least one case. There are also mentions of discharge decisions and transitions that did not align with family expectations, indicating possible weaknesses in discharge planning and continuity for residents who require a higher level of skilled care.

Overall, St Jude's Haven appears to offer several tangible strengths—clean facilities, daily laundry, pleasant rooms, and many staff who provide attentive, compassionate care—but there are operational patterns that merit careful inquiry. Families touring the facility should ask for documentation of staffing levels (including overnight coverage), medication-administration protocols, call-system maintenance history, plumbing/sanitation response plans, sample menus, and the facility’s process for discharge planning and escalation to higher-level skilled services. Clarifying these areas can help determine whether the facility’s positives align with a prospective resident’s needs and safety expectations.

    About St Jude's Haven

St Jude's Haven sits in Johnstown, PA, and it gives seniors different types of care in a homey setting where people can feel safe and cared for, and you'll see folks living there who might need help with bathing, dressing, or taking their medicine, and maybe others who do fine on their own but still like knowing someone's nearby if something happens or if they need a hand. The place provides hospice and palliative care when that's needed, and the staff pay attention to things like personal care, mobility, and comfort, maintaining a caregiver-to-resident ratio as the licenses require, and you'll find care for people who need memory support or dementia care too. There's a personal care home section, assisted living for folks who don't want to manage a house anymore, independent living for those still wanting some freedom, and a residential care home if someone needs a live-in caregiver. The facility has services for nursing care, incontinence care, and activities for daily living, along with options for remote patient monitoring and transportation for appointments or shopping. People can use furnished rooms, get scheduled meals in the dining room-including special diets-and there's a garden for residents, walking paths, and spaces for movies and group activities, plus help with housekeeping and laundry. Families can share important information easily thanks to a special page for recording and sharing details so things don't get forgotten or lost in all the stress. For end-of-life times, you'll find memorial items including caskets and urns, help with flowers, obituaries, and creating memorial websites, with grief support if someone needs to talk, and there are options for fundraising or connecting families. The place follows rules with regular health and safety inspections, and keeps its policy information, terms and privacy agreement available online, and you can check resources like a blog, webinars, and a care directory. With all the features like movie nights, daily programs, and special community events, plus electronic visit verification and care coordination, St Jude's Haven tries to cover most needs that come up as people age, and the community's scored about 3.6 on different reviews that look at safety, comfort, and how people seem to get along, so you've got a variety of services in one spot, tailored to fit changing situations, whether someone just wants a little help, needs nursing care, or is looking for a place where end-of-life support is handled with care and respect.
