    Well cared for, highly recommend

I feel well cared for here. Staff are responsive and knowledgeable-questions get answered promptly and physicians make rounds 4-5 days a week. Rehab is excellent, the facility is clean and well maintained, and meals are tasty in a large, nicely decorated dining room. There are lots of activities and outings, a bird aviary, chapel and a lovely riverfront veranda with picnic spots. Rooms are simple but functional with private bathrooms, staff (Ms. Emily and Steven stood out) are compassionate and experienced, and free parking/meals make it an overall professional, family-like place I recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Kane Community Living Center presents a mixed profile: its clinical and rehabilitative services are frequently described as a strength, while administrative and management functions show recurring weaknesses. Multiple accounts praise the therapy teams, attentive nursing aides, and regular physician rounds; short-term post-surgical rehab and daily therapies appear to be reliable aspects of care. At the same time, reviewers describe operational gaps that affect resident safety and the day-to-day experience.

Care quality and clinical safety: Many reviewers highlight competent rehabilitation and caring direct-care staff who contribute to positive recovery experiences. However, there are consistent concerns about safety practices (including fall prevention and monitoring) and about inconsistent staffing levels. These issues are described as contributing to delays in attending to residents and uneven clinical oversight. There are also serious individual allegations about resident handling that warrant further inquiry by families and regulators.

Staff and culture: The facility has long-tenured, knowledgeable staff and programs that support career development, which some families cite as evidence of institutional commitment to staff training. Conversely, other accounts describe inconsistent professionalism, communication tone problems, and morale issues tied to management and compensation. Social-work responsiveness and family communication are specifically called out as unreliable in a number of accounts, producing frustration for families seeking timely updates or assistance.

Dining and activities: Dining spaces are large and attractively furnished, and meals are generally described as tasty. The facility offers a broad activity program โ€” organized games, themed events, bus outings, and spiritual services โ€” and provides multiple onsite amenities such as an aviary, chapel, computer area, and snack space. These features support social engagement and appear to be a genuine strength for many residents.

Facilities and accessibility: The campus and grounds, including riverfront views, veranda areas, and outdoor seating, are frequently praised and well maintained. Common areas and the dining room are described positively. In contrast, resident rooms are characterized as older or dated in several accounts, and accessibility issues such as limited handicapped parking and access frustrations are noted.

Administration and operations: Administrative weaknesses emerge repeatedly. Families report problems with billing timeliness and clarity, difficulties obtaining paperwork copies, and instances of lost or mishandled personal items. There are also references to variability in follow-through for specialty services (for example, podiatry requests). Infection-control practices during COVID are a notable concern for some families, including worries that protocols were insufficient during outbreaks and related end-of-life events.

Notable patterns and guidance for families: The overall picture is polarized โ€” many reviewers describe compassionate direct-care staff and effective therapy, while others describe serious operational and communication breakdowns. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility, ask specifically about fall-prevention protocols, staff-to-resident ratios, personal-belongings policies, billing procedures, social-work response expectations, and infection-control records. Request written copies of policy on belongings, incident reporting, and specialty-service scheduling, and meet the leadership and social-work team to assess responsiveness before making a placement decision.

    About Kane Community Living Center

Kane Community Living Center in McKeesport, sometimes called McKeesport Community Living Center, serves older adults who need simple help with daily things like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, and moving around, but also looks after people who need skilled nursing, rehab, or memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia. The building offers many options for both private and shared rooms, with each space set up to be safe, comfortable, and include features like private bathrooms, air conditioning, cable TV, telephones, Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes. Some rooms allow for wheelchairs and walkers, and there are choices for people who need extra equipment or are mostly in bed. The center's nursing team, which includes nurses, aides, therapists, and on-site doctors, gives care for 12-16 hours a day, with 24-hour supervision and a call system to respond to emergencies or when someone needs help-even in the middle of the night.

Residents who stay after a hospital visit, an illness, or a surgery can get physical, occupational, or speech therapy, as well as care for wounds or trachs, and folks who need a secure unit for memory care get personalized routines and activities that help them feel safe and stay involved. The staff help with daily routines, medications, moving, transfers, and keep an eye on health changes, while keeping families in the loop and helping with move-in coordination. For people who just need short stays so their family caregivers can take a break, there is respite care, too. Kane Community Living Center has a long history of taking care of the community with staff that aim to help people keep as much independence as they can, but always with dignity.

The center offers a wide range of activities and amenities, including arts and crafts rooms, fitness spaces, a game room, a small library, gardens, outdoor courtyards, walking paths, a spa or sauna, and social programs ranging from movie nights to music events. The community plans daily events, outings, outdoor programs, regular fundraising events, and has beauty and barber shops, computer and video game rooms, common lounges, and activity rooms for meeting friends or joining in group activities. Housekeeping, laundry, and linen services keep rooms clean, and dining rooms serve restaurant-style meals with menu choices for allergies, diabetes, or other special needs. The property is close to local stores, coffee shops, gas stations, pharmacies, and restaurants, which makes it easy for residents and families.

Transportation is available for doctor appointments or other outings, with bus or van service arranged by the community, and there's parking for visitors. Chapels appeal to all faiths, and the grounds are landscaped with areas for sitting and enjoying the outdoors. The living center accepts many payment types-including private pay, insurance, veterans benefits, Medicaid, and Medicare-which can help families who need different ways to manage expenses. The review score is about average, but the facility keeps its focus on creating a secure, close-to-home feeling for each person, supporting both comfort and a sense of belonging. Kane Community Living Center works to give every resident a safe place with care tailored to their needs, whether they're staying for a while or making it a home.
