    Attentive staff clean facility recommended

I placed my loved one at Glen Hazel and am very satisfied-staff (especially Georganna, Jackie, Tammy, and Barb) are attentive, responsive and professional, coordinating safe, timely care. The facility is very clean, welcoming, with on-site medical services, therapy, activities and reasonable cost; I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer feedback for Kane Community Living Center โ€” Glen Hazel is mixed, with distinct clusters of praise for on-site services and amenities alongside recurring operational concerns. Strengths frequently cited include the availability of on-site medical and rehabilitation services (PT/OT/speech), a therapy gym, a beauty salon, and a range of communal and recreational spaces such as a library, computer lab, TV rooms, and an outdoor courtyard. Families and agency staff also noted structured daily activities and the presence of a responsive social-work function that can facilitate admissions and care coordination.

Care quality descriptions vary considerably. Several accounts describe attentive, professional caregivers and effective clinical support; however, a substantial number of reports describe inconsistent clinical care, missed or unreliable therapy sessions, delays in responding to basic needs, and concerns about skin integrity and wound care. There are also serious, isolated allegations of physical incidents and skin problems; those items are described with differing degrees of severity and have contributed to heightened family concern. Overall the pattern suggests that clinical performance may fluctuate depending on staffing levels and unit assignment.

Staff performance is characterized as highly variable. Multiple submissions praise individual caregivers and named staff who provide timely updates and compassionate service, while other accounts cite poor communication tone, abrupt behavior at the nursesโ€™ station, inadequate handovers, and supervisory gaps. Reviewers raise concerns about staffing shortages and morale, weak orientation or supervision for new hires, and disciplinary or turnover events that affect continuity of care.

Dining and personal-care experiences are similarly inconsistent. The facility offers customized meal options and some families note acceptable food service, but numerous comments mention cold meals, repetitive menus, and dissatisfaction with meal quality. Personal-care scheduling problems were reported, including limited access to showers or inconsistent bathing routines, which families linked to broader staffing and scheduling constraints.

Programming and environment present a mixed picture. The center provides a broad range of activities and communal spaces that many residents use, but reviewers raising dementia-related concerns describe limited dementia-specific engagement and restrictive unit practices that can leave memory-care residents with fewer appropriate activities. The building is described as older and in need of maintenance in places; rooms are often small and sometimes shared in a clinical layout, while common areas and the lobby are frequently described as clean and presentable.

Administrative and management issues are a recurring theme. Multiple accounts describe difficult admissions interactions, front-line reception and supervisor communication problems, billing or discharge coordination errors, and limitations on guest communication such as lack of Wiโ€‘Fi and poor cell reception. There are also allegations concerning missing personal property and complaints that family grievances were not consistently acknowledged or resolved. A few reviewers raised concerns about discriminatory behavior during admissions; those are serious claims that some families felt required escalation.

In sum, Glen Hazel appears to offer substantial institutional resources and several strong individual staff members, but the facility shows uneven execution in staffing consistency, clinical reliability, and administrative responsiveness. Prospective residents and families should weigh the available on-site services and communal amenities against the reported variability in day-to-day care, and consider in-person assessment of specific units, staffing levels, dementia-programming details, infection-control and sanitation practices, and the facilityโ€™s processes for admissions, billing, and incident reporting before making placement decisions.
