    Professional kind clean excellent care

I'm very pleased with my loved one's stay - the staff are professional, kind and truly treat residents like family. Therapy and nursing care were excellent, dietary needs were handled promptly, and the facility is clean, comfortable and well run. I'd recommend this caring team to family and friends; overall very good with just a few small areas for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

The Waters of Cheatham presents a mixed but clear pattern: a well-regarded therapy department and many staff members who are described as compassionate and willing to exceed role expectations, paired with recurring operational concerns around cleanliness, medication controls, and response times. Reviewers commonly praise the rehabilitation services, the family-like culture among caregiving staff, and the facility's ability to deliver a full continuum of services (short-term rehab, long-term care, respite, and hospice). Several accounts highlight successful therapy outcomes, attentive CNAs, and management staff who appear professional and improvement-oriented.

Care quality shows a contrast between strong rehabilitative capacity and uneven clinical oversight. The therapy teams receive consistently high marks for helping residents return home, and many families expressed confidence in day-to-day nursing and CNA support. At the same time, there are recurring themes of medication-management gaps, delayed responses to call bells or assistance requests, and inconsistent wound and incontinence-care practices. A small number of accounts raise more serious concerns, including alleged staff-related medication diversion and personal-property incidents; these allegations reduce confidence in internal controls and warrant verification with regulatory or administrative follow-up.

Staff culture is a notable strength: many reviews describe staff as warm, patient-centered, and willing to advocate for residents. However, this positive impression coexists with reports of uneven professionalism and communication tone from some employees, which can create variable family experiences. Families also reported instances where medical appointments or escalation to outside medical services were not handled reliably, suggesting gaps in care coordination and clinical escalation protocols that prospective families should probe during a tour.

Dining and activities receive mixed but generally positive commentary. The facility is described as responsive to dietary restrictions and capable of providing alternative meals; several reviewers appreciated quick dietary accommodations. Conversely, food quality is described inconsistently across accounts, with isolated negative comments about meal appeal and timeliness. Activities and common areas are often characterized as comfortable and engaging, contributing to a homelike environment when facility upkeep is satisfactory.

Facilities and maintenance are areas of concern. Multiple reviewers cite sanitation issues, odor control problems, and evidence of deferred maintenance in rooms, hallways, and restrooms. The building is described as dated in places, and there are references to HVAC or moisture issues that impact odor and air quality. Personal-property security controls and inventory practices were questioned after incidents described by families, which suggests the need for clearer property-management policies and staff oversight.

Management and improvements are described ambivalently. Some families specifically note leadership improvements and responsive administration, while others feel management did not adequately address serious incidents or safety concerns. Given the combination of strong clinical rehabilitation services and the operational weaknesses outlined above, prospective residents and families should consider an in-person evaluation that focuses on: current staffing levels and turnover; medication-administration protocols and auditing; incident escalation and emergency-response times; facility sanitation and maintenance plans; theft/property-security policies; and recent regulatory or management changes. These targeted questions will help verify whether the strengths (notably therapy and many caring staff) are supported by robust operational controls and consistent day-to-day care practices.
