    Compassionate staff and welcoming community

I'm very satisfied with our move to Asbury Place/The Waters - the staff consistently went above and beyond, compassionate and professional, and made the transition smooth. The rooms are spacious, homey and clean with nice kitchenettes and lovely views, meals are hot with varied weekly menus, and there are plenty of activities and on-site church services. Communication and quick paperwork from people like Rita and Valerie made everything easier, and therapy/rehab was effective. Overall a very good, welcoming community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Asbury Place Maryville elicits a strongly mixed set of impressions. Many reviews praise the day-to-day caregiving staff, therapy team, social workers, and front-line employees for kindness, personalized attention and successful rehabilitation outcomes. Residents and families frequently note a broad continuum of services (independent living through skilled nursing), an active activities program (crafts, games, worship services, outings), on-campus transportation, and a campus that is generally modern, bright and comfortable with scenic views and well-laid-out resident rooms.

At the same time, a consistent pattern in the feedback points to operational variability. Staffing levels and turnover are described as a recurring issue that appears to affect care consistency and response times; when staffing is thin, families report delays in assistance, missed scheduled bathing or repositioning, and inconsistent help with meals. Several accounts describe skin-integrity and wound-care concerns, and there are multiple references to problems with timely clinical communication and coordination between nurses, administration and outside physicians.

Dining and housekeeping receive mixed reviews. Some families commend the food and dining experience, while others describe declines in meal quality and limitations on dining access after vendor or management changes. Cleanliness and pest-control issues are raised in specific units or rooms, and laundry handling and personal-property management are a recurring operational concern for some families. Administrative functions also present variability: reviewers cite billing errors, delayed invoices, opaque fees and occasional escalation to collections, as well as uneven follow-up on resident requests and work orders.

Management and leadership appear to influence experience markedly. Positive accounts credit specific staff and social-work support for strong case management and family communication; negative accounts cite poor administrative follow-through, inconsistent policy enforcement, and communication breakdowns—particularly during periods of high census or pandemic-related restrictions. Rehab and therapy services are often singled out as strengths, but a few families described dissatisfaction with specific transitions or with insurance/contracting limitations.

For prospective residents and families, the reviews suggest focused due diligence: ask about current staffing levels and turnover, skin and wound care protocols, call-response times, laundry and property handling procedures, dining vendor contracts and sample menus, billing practices and fee disclosures, dementia-security measures, and how the facility coordinates with outside physicians and hospice. On-site visits during different shifts, conversations with the nurse manager or social worker, and references from current families can help assess whether the facility’s operational performance aligns with an individual resident’s needs.

    About Asbury Place Maryville

Asbury Place Maryville sits among the hills and trees near the Smoky Mountains, with townhomes and cottages that have porches and decks, lots of large windows, and scenic views of water, greenery, and landscaped gardens, so folks always have somewhere nice to walk or sit awhile. The community covers almost everything you could want, from Active Adult Living to Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Long-Term Care and Skilled Nursing, Home Health Care with Medicare-certified nursing, Home Care for non-medical help, and even Hospice Care, so residents can stay in one place even if their needs change. There are Adult Day Services, too, for people who need support during the day but go home at night. People live in apartments, cottages, or townhomes-with some options offering three bedrooms, garages, or elevators-and layouts can be as simple as a cozy studio or one-bedroom spot to spacious three-bedroom homes.

The staff keeps a friendly and inviting atmosphere, and folks say everyone is approachable and helpful, from caregivers with specialized training, including CNAs, to the nursing and support teams. Memory Care has its own space with a brick and stone entrance, a peaceful courtyard, and secure doors, and the Timeless Table Dining™ experience makes mealtimes less stressful for those living with memory loss. The memory care program relies on evidence-based care and creates structured days with lots of support. Assisted Living residents get help with daily chores and medication, but everyone can join activities if they want, including fitness classes, art workshops, volunteer opportunities, and social hours like those held in the Garden Room or on the lakeside pavilion.

Residents can sit together for meals prepared by professional chefs in a bright Bistro, enjoy gatherings in living rooms with stylish decor, and use high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the building. There are places to meet up for impromptu events, too, like the putting green, lakeside spots, four-seasons rooms, courtyard gardens, and pavilions. The Wellness Center offers programs to support mind and body, and many services aim to help people keep their independence as long as possible. Amenities cover everything from handicap accessibility to counseling, and there's a strong focus on safety, healthy aging, and creating opportunities for folks to make friends, share laughter, and stay engaged in community life.

The place works with MFA Tennessee Holdings, LLC, the McFarlin Group, and Asbury Communities, Inc., so it's got some big names ensuring standards stay up. With choices in floor plans-from studios and one-bedroom apartments to big cottage homes with attached garages or carport parking-residents can pick what suits them and not worry about things like lawn work or repairs. There are plenty of outdoor gathering spots, gardens full of flowers, quiet ponds, and a steady offering of wellness and intellectual programs, so folks can stay as busy or as quiet as they please. The community looks and feels modern and clean, with a warm, neighborly mood and lots of open, light-filled spaces, and staff always available to keep family updated and provide help where needed.
