    Warm spotless homey caring community

I moved my loved one in and have been very pleased. The place is spotless, warm and truly feels like home; staff are professional, kind and go above and beyond while leadership works hard to stabilize things and involve family in care. The transition was easy, meals and activities are good, rooms are apartment-style and can be personalized, and communication gives me real peace of mind. Overall a caring, well-run community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Riverdale Assisted Living elicits a broadly mixed but specific set of impressions. Positive comments cluster around a clean, home-like physical environment and an array of amenities: apartment-style private rooms (many with private bathrooms, accessibility features, mini-fridges and microwaves), modern common spaces following recent renovations, pleasant grounds and courtyards, and on-site offerings such as a salon, exercise room, library and multiple activity rooms. Several families praised the intake process and initial tours as professional and informative.

Care quality and staff interactions show a clear split. Many observers describe caregivers as courteous, compassionate and attentive, with individual staff praised for going above and beyond. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about staffing stability: high turnover, inexperienced or overworked staff, and limited clinical coverage during some shifts. These workforce pressures connect to family-reported communication problems — difficulty reaching staff by phone, delayed callbacks, and inconsistent administrative follow-through — which affect overall confidence in day-to-day management and care coordination.

Dining and activities are frequently highlighted as strengths but with variability. The facility provides three daily meals, family-style dining, a buffet option and the ability to deliver meals to rooms; activity programming is broad (book club, sittercise, bingo, music, chapel, crafts, card games and outings). Multiple families described the food as appealing and the portions adequate, yet others cited inconsistent meal quality, small portions at times, and limited menu transparency. Similarly, activities exist and are well-appointed, but resident participation and engagement appear uneven across the community.

Facility operations and management present mixed signals. Positive notes include visible infection-control measures and security features (screening procedures and cameras), transparent routine and financial explanations in some cases, and an expressed willingness by new leadership to stabilize operations. Counterbalancing this are reports of administrative disorganization (delayed admissions, poor follow-through), maintenance and sanitation issues in specific areas, and concerns about financial stewardship including vendor payment practice questions. There are also serious, isolated allegations of staff misconduct and theft that families flagged; these are significant and warrant direct inquiry by prospective residents and their families.

Overall, Riverdale may suit families seeking a modern, amenity-rich assisted living option with apartment-style accommodations and an active activity slate. Prospective residents should weigh those strengths against patterns indicating workforce instability, episodic operational lapses, and variable transparency during clinical or incident events. For decision-making: verify current staffing levels and on-shift clinical coverage, ask for written menus and activity calendars, review policies for visitation and infection-control transparency, and request documentation about how the facility manages employee background checks, benefits, and vendor relationships.

    About Riverdale Assisted Living

Riverdale Assisted Living, licensed for 96 beds under Certification #00000370, is an Assisted Care Living Facility owned by Brenda Richardson Memorial Care Home, a group that's spent years working with adults and older adults who need a little extra support, and this place definitely brings together different services and amenities you'd expect, with some things set up for folks who could use memory care, respite care, or even just help now and then, and after walking through the common areas-which include a living room, a library, and both outdoor patio spaces and walking paths-it's easy to see that the staff want people to feel comfortable and at home. There's an on-site fitness room, a spa with a whirlpool for relaxing, and a swimming pool and hot tub, and people who want to keep up their appearance can make use of the full-service beauty and barber shop right on site, and with weekly housekeeping, linen service, and free laundry, chores don't have to get in the way. The apartments, which come in studio, semi-private, or two-bedroom options, have wall-to-wall carpeting and their own climate control, plus an emergency call system that gets the attention of the 24-hour awake staff, so if someone needs help, day or night, there's always support, and since they offer diabetic care, medication management, incontinence care, help transferring for non-ambulatory residents, and even care for residents at risk for elopement, they seem to listen carefully to each person's needs with regular assessments and keep care at the right level. Riverdale also offers memory care for folks with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia, with a safeguarded facility, support for wandering risk, and activity programs built to help with cognitive engagement while reducing confusion, and those who like being social can spend time in the activity spaces, take part in onsite devotional services, or join group outings with scheduled transportation-though people can also get rides to medical appointments and there's busline access as well, which is helpful for families and guests. Residents get meals, including vegetarian choices, and every resident (who's 55 and over) has access to indoor and outdoor spaces for gatherings or quiet times, and since pets are allowed, it feels a lot more homey, plus the rules about no smoking indoors keep things cleaner. Payments are flexible, with private pay, social security, veteran's benefits, and private insurance all accepted, and care fees are based on whether someone needs higher, medium, or low levels of support, including charges for a second person and a community fee, but the important thing seems to be that Riverdale aims to give everyone respectful treatment, help people hold onto some independence, and provide both the staff and health support needed to keep everyone as safe, comfortable, and engaged as they want to be.
