    Warm staff, clean, caring community

I felt at home from day one - the staff are warm, professional and genuinely caring. Judy in the kitchen/management, Bridgette at the desk and Billy in maintenance go above and beyond: paperwork help, timely fixes and daily check-ins are handled proactively. Meals are well-prepared, activities are engaging, and the facility is clean and well-maintained. Overall I'm very pleased and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Lakewest Assisted Living elicits sharply mixed impressions. A substantial portion of reviewers describe a small, home-like environment with compassionate caregivers, engaged ownership, and a strong focus on individualized attention. Specific staff members and departments (front office personnel, activity directors, kitchen and maintenance staff) receive frequent praise for professionalism, warmth, and reliability; families credited these employees with providing peace of mind, creative activities, and attentive day-to-day support. The facility is frequently described as having a close-knit culture, with long-tenured aides and owners who are visible and involved in resident life.

However, alongside positive accounts are recurring operational concerns that prospective families should weigh. The most consistent negative themes involve pest-control concerns and sanitation inconsistencies, problems with medication administration and pharmacy-handling practices, and intermittent staffing shortages that lead to med-aides covering nursing tasks and delays in basic clinical checks. Several reviewers described billing errors, missing personal property, or alleged theft; these claims point to weaknesses in accounting, inventory, and property-security controls. Administrative communication was also characterized as uneven, with families citing slow responses to incidents, difficulty reaching leadership, and frequent administrator turnover.

Dining and activities produce mixed feedback. Many reviewers praised the kitchen, specific food-service staff, and holiday or special-meal efforts; others expressed concerns about menu transparency, nutritional adequacy for certain residents, and intermittent shortages. Life-enrichment programming is highlighted as a strength by multiple accounts—activity directors were described as creative and engaging—though some families wanted broader or more frequent offerings and more consistent social engagement for residents with limited mobility or cognitive impairment.

Facility condition and safety observations vary by report. Positive notes include well-kept common areas, responsive maintenance, and comfortable, home-like décor for certain wings. Conversely, others reported accessibility and safety hazards such as blocked walkways, inconsistent wheelchair access, HVAC outages, and uneven exterior maintenance. Smoking policy enforcement was described as lax in some areas, contributing to resident and visitor concerns. Privacy in private rooms and the layout of shared spaces were flagged as limitations by several families.

Overall, Lakewest presents as an intimate, personality-driven provider whose quality appears to vary with staffing stability and leadership continuity. Strong interpersonal care and select operational areas (activities, maintenance, kitchen) are evident, but persistent operational weaknesses (pest-control, medication management, administrative responsiveness, and financial/property controls) have been reported often enough to merit direct questions during a tour. Prospective families should ask for recent inspection and pest-control records, clarify on-site nursing coverage and medication protocols, review incident and billing procedures, and observe housekeeping and common areas during different times of day to assess consistency.
