    Compassionate clean attentive home care

I placed my mom here and have been very pleased - compassionate, knowledgeable staff who provide individualized, attentive care; immaculate, odor-free, home-like surroundings; home-cooked meals, good medication and diet management, and clear, constant communication that gave us real peace of mind. Residents are treated with dignity and the staff are responsive to needs and moods. I highly recommend this home, with only minor quibbles keeping it from being absolutely perfect.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Alternative Senior Care are overwhelmingly positive, with recurring emphasis on high-quality, compassionate caregiving, excellent communication with families, and a clean, home-like environment. Multiple reviewers highlight the facilitys immaculate condition and lack of unpleasant odors, and describe accessible design features such as extra-wide hallways and doorways that support residents with mobility needs. The overall sentiment is that residents are treated with respect and dignity and families experience peace of mind regarding daily care and safety.

Clinical and daily-care quality are prominent themes. Reviewers report reliable medication administration, coordinated medical appointments, and effective collaboration with outside medical experts and hospice providers. Several specific clinical outcomes are cited, including improved A1C levels and elimination of insulin injections, reduced emergency room visits, weight gain, and decreased combativeness — all pointing to stabilizing, individualized care plans. Care is described as attentive and often one-on-one, with CNAs and caregivers characterized as competent, empathetic, and consistently present throughout the day.

Staff behavior and communication receive strong praise. Families repeatedly note timely, clear updates from staff and management, compassionate interactions, and a director/owner who is knowledgeable and responsive. The caregivers are reported to interact frequently with residents rather than leaving them alone in rooms or hallways, and many reviewers emphasize that dignity and personal preferences are respected. This combination of clinical competence and warm interpersonal care contributes to reviewers sense of trust and recommendation.

The facilitys physical environment and programming are also highlighted. Reviewers appreciate a home-like atmosphere with a beautiful common area for activities, a calming back deck, and meals made from scratch. Meal service is frequently mentioned as a strength: staff accommodate special diets, manage menus to support health goals, and provide regular snacks and coffee. Activities are offered in inviting spaces, and the small scale of the home enables individualized attention and quick response to changes in mood or health status.

Management and operational notes are consistently positive: the owner/director is accessible and involved, the facility is competitively priced for the care level provided, and families express strong willingness to refer others. The small, intimate nature of the home is portrayed as a benefit by many reviewers, producing a peaceful, caring environment that often outperforms larger private homes or prior placements.

The principal limitations noted across summaries are related to size and availability rather than quality. Several reviewers point out the small, home-like scale — which enables individualized attention but also limits capacity and can produce a wait list. A few comments imply the setting may not be ideal for families specifically seeking the amenities or breadth of services found in larger institutional facilities. Beyond those capacity-related concerns, there are no consistent negative reports about cleanliness, staff responsiveness, communication, or care quality.

In sum, Alternative Senior Care is portrayed as a top-choice, small residential care option that excels at delivering compassionate, clinically competent, and individualized care within a clean, accessible, and home-like environment. Families value the staffs responsiveness and communication, the facilitys coordination with hospice and medical providers, and tangible health improvements among residents. Prospective families should consider the facilitys limited capacity and potential wait list when planning admission, but for those seeking attentive, small-scale residential care, the reviews present a strong, consistently favorable picture.

    About Alternative Senior Care

Alternative Senior Care, LLC sits on Wild Eagle Street on the northwest side of San Antonio, right near places like Fiesta Texas, La Cantera Mall, The Rim, and the UTSA Main Campus, and folks tend to find it's a good bit quieter than most bigger places, probably because it only has room for up to 10 residents and gives off a homelike feel you don't get in big nursing homes. The whole setup is meant for seniors who like some independence but might need help here and there-maybe with dressing, bathing, or keeping track of their medicines-and they've got folks working around the clock, licensed nurses included, who can lend a hand no matter the time. The home helps adults with both medical and non-medical needs, so there's home health care, assisted living, independent living, memory care especially for dementia, hospice help, and even adult day services, so someone can come in for just a short stay or longer if needed, and they're set up for people with different health problems, like diabetes, incontinence, and folks needing high-acuity care.

The building's all on one level and has easy wheelchair access, roll-in showers, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, telephones, and even private bedrooms, some with their own bathrooms and kitchenettes, so people can have a bit of their own space if they want. There's a dining room, indoor and outdoor common areas, a garden, an outdoor patio that gets used a lot in the summer evenings, and an indoor game room for cards, puzzles, arts and crafts, and other group activities. They serve three balanced meals and snacks every day, and they're careful with diets-offering no/low sodium, diabetic, and vegetarian meals, room service, and restaurant-style dining if someone feels like eating outside their room.

The staff has a reputation for being really careful about people's dignity and respecting everyone's needs, and they work hard to communicate well with families and make the move into care go smoothly. Folks talk about the staff being quick to help, gentle, and always paying attention, especially with residents who have memory problems or need special attention with things like behavior or emotional health. They hold a solid number of activities-birthday and holiday parties, BBQs, stretching and art classes, devotionals, games, bridge, outings, and even live music-so people can stay busy and make friends, and there's a focus on wellness, physical therapy, spiritual support, and keeping up some independence with help close by.

Besides daily help, the home handles laundry and housekeeping, move-in support, medication management, and transportation to medical appointments, though there's sometimes an extra cost for transportation. Beauty and barber services, home care aides, and onsite in-home care agency services are all available. Private rooms cost about $4,000 a month, and the place is open to both men and women. The setting stays calm and the environment clean, with every effort made to treat residents more like family, and after over 20 years working with seniors, the team aims to make sure everyone feels safe, understood, and cared for, whether they're staying short-term for respite or calling it home for years.
