    Clean, attentive staff; excellent pricing

I placed my mom here and have been very pleased. The place is clean and well-kept, staff are professional, attentive and Spanish-speaking, and there's plenty of help. Rooms are roomy with TVs and clean linens, meals are organized and varied (my mom has gained weight), and they provide PT and doctor visits plus lots of daytime activities and a shaded patio/backyard. Small, cozy community with excellent pricing (under $2,000/month) - I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed but specific picture of Mendoza #2 Assisted Living. Strengths repeatedly described include a small, cozy environment with a multicultural resident population and Spanish-speaking staff. Many accounts emphasize courteous, professional caregivers, a clean and well-kept facility, spacious walker‑friendly rooms with televisions, and outdoor shaded seating. The community offers daytime activities and organized events, on-site physical therapy and physician visits, and a dedicated dining area with menus that some residents find varied and satisfying. For prospective residents seeking an affordable, smaller-scale setting that supports independence and social engagement, these attributes are notable.

Care quality is where the most notable variability appears. Several accounts describe attentive caregiving, positive clinical outcomes (for example, improved appetite and weight gain), and helpful staff responsiveness. Conversely, other accounts describe poor experiences, characterizing care as inadequate and pointing to lapses in routine attention. This divergence suggests inconsistent staffing practices or uneven care processes; families should verify current staffing levels, shift coverage, and care-plan continuity when evaluating the community.

Dining is another area of contrast. Some reviewers praise the menu variety and pleasant dining area; others describe limited or repetitive meal offerings and express concerns about nutritional adequacy and allocation practices. A few comments imply that staff meal practices or meal distribution priorities disadvantage residents. These observations point to operational gaps in meal-service consistency and nutrition oversight rather than a universal condition.

Communication and language access are mixed: the presence of Spanish-speaking staff is an advantage for Spanish-fluent residents, but other comments indicate family‑communication gaps and language barriers in some interactions. Management-related patterns also appear uneven. While some reviewers highlight attractive, budget-friendly pricing (including mentions of rates under $2,000/month), others perceive the cost as high relative to the care they experienced, and some feel the facility places greater emphasis on aesthetics than on clinical attention. Availability is sometimes constrained and depends on unit openings.

In summary, Mendoza #2 shows clear operational strengths for families prioritizing affordability, a small bilingual community, accessible activities, and on-site therapy services. However, the facility exhibits variability in care consistency, meal-service practices, and communication. Prospective residents and families should tour during mealtime, meet caregiving staff across shifts, ask for current staffing ratios and sample menus, confirm language-support arrangements, and obtain references from current families to assess whether the facility’s operational practices align with their care expectations.

    About Mendoza #2 Assisted Living

Mendoza #2 Assisted Living in San Antonio, TX, is a small assisted living board and care home with 10 licensed beds, and when you walk in, you'll see it feels cozy and home-like, and there's a comfortable flat with shared and private living spaces, some with a kitchenette, plus fully furnished rooms and hospital-style beds for those who need them, and you'll notice the big backyard where residents can get fresh air or join in on barbecues or just chat with neighbors. Staff members, including Spanish-speaking personnel, are described as kind, pleasant, and professional, and they're around 24 hours a day to help with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, transfers, and medication management, and they offer special care for residents with dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, incontinence, or other ongoing health needs, and they coordinate with healthcare professionals who visit the facility for monthly physician checkups or for therapies. Residents can enjoy a chef-inspired meals menu, including pureed foods or special diets for diabetes, allergies, and other medical needs, and there's help available with spoon feeding if needed. Residents eat their meals in a spacious dining room, and there's a small kitchen area within the common spaces. You'll also find generous closet space, semi-private or private rooms, and shared spaces that let everyone interact naturally.

Everyone's encouraged to stay active with daily planned activities and fun events like movie nights in the on-site theater, arts and crafts, games, wellness and fall prevention programs, birthday parties, and even massage therapy if someone likes that, and there are special community programs, social engagement events, and outings arranged. There's a large library for those who want to read, gardens and outdoor decks to sit and relax, and the grounds stay fully secured, so residents and families don't have to worry about safety. For those who drive or have visitors, there's on-site parking, and the facility can arrange transportation to doctors' appointments, or help with errands like picking up prescriptions at the pharmacy, and moving services are also available to help new residents settle in more easily. Every room's equipped with all needed appliances, personal televisions, and Wi-Fi, and housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning services are all included so everyone can focus on enjoying the day. Emergency pull cords and alert systems are in place, and the building's designed for easy navigation with wheelchairs or walkers, making it comfortable even for folks who use mobility aids.

Mendoza #2 Assisted Living supports independence but has plenty of support ready when residents need help, whether it's for memory care, skilled nursing, or just companionship, and the community keeps a quiet, respectful atmosphere where staff always try to treat everyone with dignity and personalized attention. It's a place where routines are simple, help is close by, and each resident can be part of a small, caring group that looks after one another day after day, which sometimes makes all the difference, and that's really what people notice.
