    Warm homey care with caveat

I placed my mother here and we were very pleased - warm, homey, recently renovated, affordable, with nutritious meals, daily activities/holiday events, and attentive staff who gave personalized, loving care. My only caveat: management/ownership felt inconsistent at times (staffing/training and some maintenance issues), so ask about credentials and policies up front. Overall I'm very satisfied and would recommend this small, family-style community with a bit of due diligence.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews present a strongly mixed picture of Country Care. A substantial number of reviewers describe the community as warm, home-like, affordable, and staffed by caring, attentive people who provide personalized care and meaningful activities. At the same time, a smaller but serious set of reviews raises multiple operational, managerial, and safety concerns — including allegations of dishonesty by ownership, uncredentialed or immature administrators, lapses in care, and medication-handling issues. The net result is a polarized reputation: many residents and families are very satisfied and would highly recommend the facility, while others warn about potentially serious risks and inconsistent management.

Care quality and staff: The dominant positive theme centers on individualized, affectionate caregiving. Numerous reviews emphasize that staff go “above and beyond,” treating residents like family, responding to needs, and helping create a comfortable, home-like environment. Several reviewers report excellent outcomes (e.g., a resident choosing to stay and enjoy life there) and specifically praise caregivers as kind, compassionate, attentive, and willing to help. Conversely, multiple reviews describe under-care or neglect for some residents, and identify aides as undertrained or “rundown.” There are also repeated claims that medication administration may be handled by uncredentialed employees, which is a serious safety-related allegation. In short, while many families report very good hands-on care, others experienced concerning lapses; this suggests inconsistency in staff performance, training, or supervision across shifts or units.

Facilities, cleanliness, and dining: Many reviewers compliment the facility’s physical environment: clean, well-kept, recently renovated, open and airy spaces, and a cozy, small-community layout that feels intimate and homey. Activity programming is frequently praised — holiday events, family-oriented gatherings (Easter egg hunts, Halloween), and social stimulation that includes intergenerational activities. Food reviews are inconsistent: several families say meals are nutritious and enjoyable, while some allege the food is cheap, boxed, or processed. Maintenance issues are another mixed area: while many report a nicely kept facility, other reviewers say maintenance requests are not handled promptly. These mixed reports point to variability in the facility’s upkeep and dining depending on timing or unit.

Management and administration: Management is the most polarized topic. A number of reviews praise an administrator for being kind, attentive, and helpful, and some reviewers specifically describe an owner who is caring and engaged. However, a number of other reviews make strong negative claims about the owner and management: manipulative, dishonest, deceitful, vindictive, or treating employees poorly. Several reviewers explicitly state that administrators lack formal training or credentials and describe immature or unprofessional behavior. There are also allegations that concerns raised by families were ignored. These conflicting accounts suggest management practices or culture may have changed over time, or that experiences vary greatly depending on which staff members are on duty or which families are involved.

Safety, regulation, and billing concerns: Multiple reviews raise red flags about safety and regulatory compliance: reports of barely meeting health code standards, medication being passed by undertrained staff, and safety/care concerns being ignored. Additionally, there are complaints about overcharging or billing problems. These issues are significant because they affect resident health and legal compliance. While many families report no problems, the severity of the allegations in several reviews means prospective families should verify training, licensure, medication policies, inspection results, and billing practices before deciding.

Patterns, risk assessment, and recommendations for prospective families: The reviews suggest two distinct experiential patterns: (1) consistently positive experiences characterized by compassionate, personalized care in a clean, activity-rich, affordable, small-community setting; (2) troubling experiences involving poor management practices, inconsistent staffing/training, safety and medication-handling concerns, and occasional neglect. Because the positive reviews are numerous but the negative reviews describe potentially serious issues, prospective residents and families should perform careful due diligence. Recommended steps include touring multiple times (including meal and activity times), asking for staff credentials and training policies (especially medication administration), requesting recent inspection reports and complaint histories, verifying maintenance request turnaround, obtaining written admission/billing agreements, and speaking with current families about consistency of care and management responsiveness.

Bottom line: Country Care elicits strong praise for atmosphere, affordability, staff warmth, activities, and a homey environment from many reviewers, but also attracts serious allegations about management integrity, staff training, medication safety, and maintenance responsiveness from others. These conflicting themes warrant both recognition of the facility’s strengths and caution — verify operational details and safety practices in person before entrusting a loved one to the community.
