    Attentive caring family-run senior care

I placed my mom here and have been very pleased - the staff are attentive, caring, and on top of everything with 24/7 nursing oversight and great communication. Meals are tasty and plentiful, activities (bingo, movies, music, crafts) keep residents engaged, and the facility is clean and family-run. DON Maureen and the owners are involved and supportive, pricing is affordable, and I feel confident my loved one is in good hands. I highly recommend this compassionate, professional community.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews portray Hughes Home, Inc. as a small, family-owned long-term care provider with several clear strengths alongside operational inconsistencies. Many families emphasize a culture of compassionate caregiving: staff are frequently described as attentive, empathetic, and relational, with long-tenured caregivers and hands-on owner involvement that create a family-like atmosphere. Clinical leadership is routinely singled out as a strength, with a named Director of Nursing and nursing team noted for accessibility and coordination. The facility also advertises 24-hour care and dementia-capable supports, which several families found reassuring for long-term and end-of-life needs.

Dining and programming are consistently praised. Reviewers highlight nutritious, plentiful meals with resident choice, plus on-site personal services such as a salon, barber, and pedicure. The activity program is active and varied (bingo, movie nights, music, crafts, church services, live bands, barbecues), and recreation staff are often credited with encouraging participation and movement. On-site maintenance, outdoor seating and a riverside location are additional positive attributes commonly mentioned.

At the facility level, reviewers identify several operational concerns. Medication administration and documentation gaps are among the most serious recurring issues mentioned, including days without regular medications and incomplete medication lists; this is linked by some reviewers to lapses in clinical-information flow and emergency coordination. Housekeeping and room-level sanitation appear inconsistent: common areas are often described as clean, but shared bathrooms and some private rooms were noted to have sanitation or upkeep problems. The interior finishes in parts of the building are described as dated and institutional (cinderblock walls, linoleum floors), producing a mixed experience between a homelike atmosphere and a more institutional/dormitory feel.

Management and staffing present mixed signals. Many reviews praise hands-on owners and a supportive DON, but other reviews describe inconsistent management practices, uneasy staff morale, short-staffing at times, and variability in staff training and responsiveness. Admission and paperwork processes are sometimes described as uneven, and communication tone with families ranges from proactive and transparent to abrupt or unhelpful in isolated accounts. A small number of reviewers raise serious concerns about communication with families and external responders; these have been characterized as allegations and warrant direct inquiry during a visit or intake discussion.

Taken together, Hughes Home appears to offer strong relational care, engaged programming, and cost-effective services in a small, community-oriented setting. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against operational inconsistencies in medication management, room-level housekeeping, and interior condition. During a tour or pre-admission meeting it would be prudent to review medication-administration protocols and documentation, staffing levels and training, housekeeping schedules for shared and private rooms, and specific admission paperwork processes to ensure the facilityโ€™s current practices match your expectations and clinical needs.
