Beautiful attentive compassionate memory-care community
I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased - a beautiful, well-kept community with sparkling clean, beautifully decorated spaces. The staff are attentive, loving and knowledgeable, leadership is proactive, and communication is timely; they truly go out of their way. The activities program (outings, classes, pet therapy) keeps residents active, happy and well-fed; I would recommend this compassionate memory-care community.

Summary of reviews
Runk & Pratt Pearls of Life at Liberty Ridge receives highly polarized feedback. Many families and visitors praise the facility's physical environment and life-enrichment program: the building is described as bright, modern, and well decorated, with ample natural light, attractive common areas, calming sensory rooms, and accessible outdoor spaces. The community appears purpose-built for memory care, with dementia-friendly programming, pet therapy, frequent outings, and a robust activities schedule that includes cooking classes, games, and regular entertainment. Numerous accounts highlight warm, patient caregivers, an engaged activities team, and a front-office staff and leadership that are proactive and communicative during intake and transitions.
At the same time, a consistent pattern of operational weaknesses emerges. Staffing levels and staff availability are described as inconsistent, producing variability in day-to-day responsiveness and conduct; families contrast caregivers who are highly attentive with times when staff were difficult to locate. Several narratives indicate gaps in clinical incident response, documentation, and timely medical assessment after falls or other events — which suggests weaknesses in clinical escalation and care coordination for higher-acuity needs. Relatedly, reviewers express concerns about fall-prevention and transfer-safety practices for residents at high fall risk. Housekeeping and in-room maintenance are described as uneven, and dining impressions vary from satisfactory to inconsistent in quality and menu suitability.
Management and communication present a mixed picture. Many families praise an accessible, involved administration and note creative visitation solutions (plexiglass booths, outdoor visits) during infection-control periods. There are positive references to a proactive director with clinical background and to staff who go above and beyond. Conversely, other families report privacy-control problems (staff entering rooms or accessing personal items), billing and administrative inconsistencies, and instances where family concerns felt insufficiently addressed. These divergent experiences point to operational variability between shifts or units rather than a uniform corporate practice.
Practical implication for prospective families: the community offers strong environmental design and an active, dementia-focused program that can be a very good fit for ambulatory or moderately independent memory-care residents who benefit from stimulation and social engagement. For residents with higher medical complexity or significant fall risk, the pattern of concerns about clinical response, training, and transfer-safety suggests families should seek detailed, written information before placement: ask about staffing ratios by shift, fall-prevention protocols, incident reporting and family-notification timelines, medication- and pain-management procedures, housekeeping schedules, billing practices, and specific examples of staff training for higher-acuity cases. Overall, the facility has many clear strengths in atmosphere and programming, but operational consistency in clinical care and administration appears to be the primary area to vet during touring and decision-making.

About Runk & Pratt Pearls of Life at Liberty Ridge
Runk & Pratt Pearls of Life at Liberty Ridge sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains and offers a quiet, safe place for seniors with a variety of care needs. The community is family owned and has helped seniors since 1992. Residents can pick from private or semi-private rooms, including apartments with classic and comfortable furnishings. The whole community is designed for both comfort and safety, with wide hallways, lots of windows and skylights for bright light, and a floor plan that lets people walk around freely with no dead ends. There are spacious common areas, enclosed outdoor gardens, patios, and a Main Street area set up like old-fashioned shops to bring about feelings of familiarity and ease. There's a secure, peaceful Memory Support building just for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, which includes state-of-the-art "Snoezelen" multisensory rooms-these help calm residents and encourage positive interactions. Hallways and skill centers have interactive walls and old things like rotary telephones, train sets, uniforms, and vintage ovens so residents can touch, play, and remember.
Residents get three chef-prepared meals each day, with dietician plans for special needs, and there's an in-house cafe and bakery for snacks. The dining rooms are private when needed, and staff serve residents. There's help with daily living like bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and incontinence care, and there's medication and diet monitoring, too. Laundry, linens, and housekeeping are included, and emergency pull-cords, smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, and a secure coded-entry system keep everyone safe at all times. Therapy services on-site cover physical, speech, and occupational needs, and licensed medical staff watch over health and medications. There's an in-house physician or nurse practitioner as well as podiatry and x-ray services.
The activities calendar stays full with weekly events, fitness programs, off-site trips, seminars, church services, billiards, ping pong, movie nights in the theater, bowling, game rooms, and time in the library or wellness center. There's a spa, beauty parlor, and barbershop on site for self-care, and residents can join in aerobics or relax in outdoor patios and gardens. For people who need less care, there are luxury independent living apartments and options to customize living spaces for personal needs and tastes.
The Memory Support area uses the latest advances in caring for those with dementia, helping cut down on confusion, wandering, and aggressive behavior while improving mood and reducing medication needs. Certified Dementia Practitioners and a full-time Dementia Trainer are part of the team. There's a Nurse Call system, and qualified staff are always there, day or night, to help. Pearls of Life at Liberty Ridge gives specialized support, from short-term respite care to long-term residential or assisted living, and the whole place is set up so residents can stay as independent as possible while getting the help they need, keeping them active, social, and secure.
Residents are welcomed into a community that understands the challenges of aging, making sure everyone feels safe, respected, and cared for, with services for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs, and a focus on honest support, everyday comforts, and genuine connection.
