    Luxurious, welcoming community with amenities

I've lived here nine months and overall I'm very pleased - beautiful, well-maintained grounds and high-end apartments, excellent and varied dining, and top amenities (saltwater pool, gym, lots of activities). The staff and residents are warm, welcoming, and truly helpful, with responsive medical, maintenance, and admin teams that give me real peace of mind; it's a luxurious, family-like community I recommend.

    Summary of reviews

The Glebe Retirement Community is consistently described as a well-appointed, well-maintained continuing-care campus with a broad set of services and amenities. Reviewers commonly highlight attractive buildings, manicured grounds and thoughtfully designed independent apartments and cottages. Housekeeping and maintenance are noted as frequent and prompt, which supports a clean, orderly environment. The campus offers on-site clinical services, health monitoring and a full range of care levels, providing many residents with confidence that future care needs can be met without relocating.

Staff and care receive strong positive commentary: many residents and family members describe staff as kind, respectful and supportive, and several accounts emphasize helpfulness during move-in and transitions. Nursing and wellness teams, along with exercise coordinators, are routinely praised for prioritizing resident well-being. That said, a recurring operational theme is uneven responsiveness and follow-up from administrative staff; a number of families described delays or missed callbacks and occasional concerns about the tone of communication. These patterns suggest variability in front-office responsiveness rather than a uniform staffing failure.

Dining and programming are frequent strengths. The community offers multiple dining venues, large portions, extended meal availability and a varied menu that reviewers characterize as high quality. Programming spans fitness and wellness classes, woodworking, music ensembles, movie nights, planned trips and frequent social events, supporting a broad range of interests and functional abilities. Campus transportation and on-site conveniences (banking, mail) add practical value to daily life.

Facilities and amenities are a major draw: heated saltwater pool, hot tub, gym, woodworking shop and dedicated activity spaces are repeatedly cited. Outdoor areas, mountain views and pet-friendly policies contribute to an active, community-oriented atmosphere. Residents describe a strong sense of community and many friendships, which aligns with consistent reports of welcoming common areas and social engagement.

Management reliability and specific program areas are where reviewers most often identify opportunities for improvement. Administrative follow-up and a centralized point-of-contact for questions (including respite-care inquiries) are areas mentioned as needing clearer processes. There are also notes about variability in the memory-care experience, indicating that performance in that distinct service area may be less consistent than independent and assisted living offerings. Prospective residents and families should ask targeted questions about communication protocols, memory-care staffing and respite availability during touring and contracting.

Overall, the Glebe presents as a high-quality, amenity-rich retirement community with a strong resident culture and many operational strengths. The primary caveats center on communication consistency and the need to verify specific program-level details (memory care, respite) to ensure they meet an individual household's expectations.

    About The Glebe Retirement Community

The Glebe Retirement Community sits at 200 The Glebe Boulevard and gives older adults several options for living and care, with 32 assisted living beds, 52 nursing facility beds, independent living apartments and cottages, and a memory care neighborhood called the Chaplick Center, so there's a wide range for people who want to stay active as well as for those who need higher levels of support, all in one place. Folks who live here often mention the beautiful mountain views of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains and an easygoing daily pace, since most things-like meals, maintenance, and housekeeping-are taken care of. The community keeps things person-centered and follows Virginia's rules for assisted living, and you can see they're serious about wellness for body, mind, and spirit with plenty of amenities and programs. The Glebe's a nonprofit, faith-based place, so profits go back into community services and improvements, and with the Life Care program, people know they can get the help they might need as their health changes-whether in assisted living, skilled nursing, home care, memory care, rehab, or long-term care, and for a short stay, they offer respite care too. Independent living has lots of floor plans to pick from in big, well-kept cottages and apartments, and there are venues and spaces for get-togethers, events, and family visits, since community life's important here and people say the residents are friendly and interesting. The Glebe sits right in Virginia's Blue Ridge region, so besides the on-site programs and tours, there's never a shortage of activities outside, with historic sites, nature trails, arts and culture nearby, and even spaces for wedding celebrations and big events. For families who can't travel, there's a virtual tour to see the place online. Everything at The Glebe shows a commitment to safety, comfort, and helping residents live how they want, with as little worry as possible, so folks can focus on what they enjoy and let the staff handle the hard parts.
