    Warm attentive community, excellent amenities

I toured and moved my mom here and I'm very pleased. The staff are warm, attentive and proactive, the community is spotless and beautifully decorated, and apartments are spacious with handy kitchenettes and in-unit laundry. Dining is excellent with varied menus and social meals, activities are abundant (live music, outings, game/movie nights), and communication with family is strong. I'd recommend it as a friendly, well-run place to call home.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression MorningStar Senior Living at Silver Lake is characterized by a strong emphasis on hospitality, communal programming, and attractive physical spaces. Reviewers consistently cite welcoming, caring staff, well-kept grounds and gardens, and bright, well-appointed common areas. Apartments frequently include useful in-unit features (washer/dryer, kitchenette) and the campus offers a range of amenities — cinema, gym, pool, bistro, and on-site therapy — that support an active lifestyle for many residents.

Staff and care quality Staff behavior and the resident–staff relationship are among the facility's most cited strengths. Long-tenured team members, life-enrichment staff, dining servers, and front-desk personnel receive repeated praise for friendliness, attentiveness, and individualized attention. Several families also praised the facility's hospice-friendly approach and the ability to keep couples together. At the same time, there are operational patterns that families should investigate: staffing shortages and variability in responsiveness are mentioned alongside specific concerns about medication-administration consistency and limited full-time nursing coverage. There are also references to occasional delays in emergency-response alarms; prospective residents should confirm current clinical staffing levels, medication protocols, and alarm-response procedures during a tour.

Dining and housekeeping Dining is a prominent feature of the community and is often described as diverse and chef-driven, with an extensive menu, two-daily specials, and a pleasant dining-room ambiance. Bistro snacks and casual offerings add flexibility. However, reviewers report inconsistencies in meal temperature, timeliness, and service levels, and some noted a perceived decline in food quality following management changes. Housekeeping and linen services are included for many residents and are frequently praised, but consistency varies by unit and over time; verify the current housekeeping schedule and standards when evaluating placement.

Activities and social programming The life-enrichment program is a clear asset: daily exercise, arts and crafts, musical events, casino and restaurant outings, and specialty events are described as plentiful and engaging. Staff in life-enrichment roles receive regular commendation for energy and creativity. The breadth of programming supports social connection for many residents, though physical limitations naturally reduce participation for some individuals; accessibility of specific activities should be assessed for persons with limited mobility.

Facilities, accessibility, and logistics Physical facilities and aesthetics are widely praised — from the main entrance and dining rooms to gardens and walking trails. Apartment layouts often accommodate independence, and services such as in-unit laundry and included housekeeping add convenience. Areas to confirm during a visit include walking distances between units and dining/activity spaces (some residents found these distances challenging), garage parking availability and EV charging (limited/waitlist), and noise or maintenance scheduling that could affect nighttime rest.

Management and notable patterns Leadership presence and several named staff members receive positive recognition for responsiveness and community involvement. Nevertheless, reviews indicate variability in front-desk/concierge communications and occasional declines in food/service continuity after ownership or management transitions. Pricing is described as above average and subject to annual increases; families should clarify current rates, what is included, and expected increases. Given the mix of consistently positive experiences and operational concerns (staffing, nursing coverage, meal-service consistency), a recommended approach for prospective residents is to tour multiple times, meet clinical leadership, review staffing schedules and emergency-response protocols, taste current meal offerings, and confirm parking/housekeeping/amenity availability to ensure the community matches the resident's care needs and lifestyle preferences.

About MorningStar Senior Living at Silver Lake

MorningStar Senior Living at Silver Lake sits in Lake Stickney, WA, and offers assisted living and memory care, but you'll also find independent living and skilled nursing all under one roof, so residents can move to different care levels as needs change without leaving the community, and they've made a point to support active seniors aged 55 years and older who want a mix of privacy and social connection in their later years. The campus stays open 24 hours a day and has 148 apartments, with options for studio, one-, and two-bedroom layouts, and space for up to 80 residents needing licensed care. There's a special focus on engaging activities every day-like themed events, live entertainment, and wellness programs covering physical, mental, social, and even spiritual health-so if you like variety, you might join a yoga session, play billiards, work in the raised garden beds or sit with neighbors in the on-site Bistro or soda shoppe where people seem to gather for casual talks and treats.

Friendly and helpful staff assist with daily tasks, and there are thoughtful touches for both safety and comfort, like handicap-accessible features, visiting doctors, and on-site clinical support, which help make things easier when health needs change or extra care is needed, and there's a Home Care service for companionship and non-medical help if someone isn't quite ready for residential care. They allow pets, so folks can walk dogs along the scenic paths or relax in the garden patio area. Housekeeping and maintenance staff take care of chores, and chef-prepared meals get served in well-lit dining rooms to add a bit of variety to the day, while Wi-Fi and high-speed internet help residents stay connected or entertained if they want downtime.

The Memory Care area includes specialized programs for those living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and for families or caregivers, the staff shares resources and honest advice about planning for senior care, with help for when it's time to look at different living options or get guidance on moves and care decisions. The facility has a 4.3-star rating from 27 reviews, which is a fair sign that people appreciate the commitment to a clean, warm environment and a calendar full of life-enriching choices. You can try short trial stays or respite care if you're curious, and tours-both in person and online-show what daily life looks like in this community that aims to give residents both independence and help as they need it.
