    Quiet rural community, welcoming operators

I'm very happy with this rural, quiet community - the owners/operators are fantastic and the atmosphere is fun and full of laughter. Meals have noticeably improved, there are movie nights, and a lovely wrap-around deck and patio that encourage socializing; my 11-year-old daughter felt welcome during visits. Dogs aren't allowed, but overall it's a positive, well-run place I'd recommend.

About Bear Creek Adult Family Home

Bear Creek Adult Family Home sits in a quiet rural spot at 398 SW Wycoff Rd in Port Orchard, WA, and folks who live there get care in one of four assisted living units, each with a single bedroom, wall-to-wall carpeting, and roomy closets, along with cable TV and all the furniture needed, and the whole place is wheelchair accessible for comfort and safe moving. The home provides three meals a day, plus snacks, and has meal choices for people needing diabetic, vegetarian, or even kosher options, and there's always help with medication, bathing, dressing, continence, and all those personal daily needs, and if someone has trouble eating, for example if spoon feeding or a pureed menu is needed, they handle that. There's always staff awake day and night, and a nurse is on staff, with a doctor available should a need arise. The place is set up for seniors with memory loss too, having a secured memory care building that comes with special safety measures, like wandering alert bracelets and an alarm system that keeps residents from leaving into unsafe spots, which makes it a safe place for people with memory problems or even dementia, and they have programs to help with behavior too. Folks needing help with physical movements-even needing mechanical lifts, standby help, or help from two people to transfer-can get that here, and anyone who needs ongoing care, up to hospice and diabetes management with insulin shots, can be looked after. Bear Creek provides on-site therapy from physical, occupational, and speech therapists, plus visiting specialists like dentists and podiatrists, and there's a routine health check-up as part of the care. The building has large balconies, a big library, a dining hall for social meals, a bistro, snacks around the clock, and a beauty and hair salon, as well as a movie theater and a nice wrap-around deck with a patio for folks who like to sit outdoors in peace. It's a friendly spot that allows pets, and family can visit or stay for meals too, with special guest services to help. For exercise and fun, residents can do arts and crafts, take part in fitness sessions or wellness programs, garden, and go on group trips, plus get on-site or off-site activities, devotional services, and transportation for errands. The owners are known for being fun and full of laughter, keeping the mood bright. The place is fully licensed under Washington #750296, but doesn't take Medicaid or Medicare, so payments are up to residents and their families. For anyone who needs a little help living alone, or for those with increasing care needs, the staff keeps up with an individualized program that changes as needs do, and because there are only a few units, the care is close and personal, with families supported along the way. No smoking is allowed inside, and there's always parking and computer and WiFi access for those who want it. This all adds up to Bear Creek being a steady choice for people wanting a quiet, secure place to age in place, to get daily help, and enjoy their days in a calm, caring setting.
