    Welcoming community with excellent staff

I moved in recently and have been very pleased - the staff went out of their way to help with placement, stayed in touch, and followed up after I settled. The building is gorgeous and hotel-like, rooms are spacious and clean, and there are plenty of activities (bingo, art, pool/rehab, happy hour) to keep you busy and social. Meals are good, maintenance and front desk are responsive, and a skilled nurse and concierge are on site. I feel welcome and at home and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

New Perspective Howard is consistently described as a high-end, hotel-like senior living community with attractive architecture, spacious apartments and a broad set of on-site amenities. Positive themes include a well-kept physical plant, an indoor pool used for therapy, a pleasant library and wellness offerings (massage, physical therapy). Housekeeping and general cleanliness are noted positively in many comments, and common areas and grounds are frequently praised.

Care and staffing impressions are mixed. Several reviewers praise compassionate caregivers, a visible skilled-nursing presence and effective rehabilitation services that support resident function. At the same time, other comments point to operational issues: staffing turnover and uneven training appear to contribute to inconsistent day-to-day experiences. There are specific concerns about staff conduct and communication tone and about variability in how promptly family concerns are addressed. Maintenance responsiveness is generally reported as strong, although follow-up on some administrative or clinical concerns can be uneven.

Dining is another area of divergence. Many reviewers praise meal variety, portioning and particular menu items, and there are positive comments about the chef and lunch offerings. Conversely, others describe cold or dated food, inaccurate menus, limited responsiveness to dietary preferences or healthier options, and occasional allergy-management gaps. Taken together, dining appears capable of high quality but also vulnerable to inconsistency in execution and menu communication.

Activity programming and social engagement receive both positive and critical notes. The community offers a diverse schedule (bingo, sewing, art, games and planned social events) and some residents report good engagement and a busy social life. However, multiple comments describe cancelled activities, poor coordination with therapy schedules and limited outreach to less-active residents. Those patterns suggest a need for more consistent activity planning and communication so residents dependent on therapy schedules can still participate.

Management and administrative themes are mixed as well. Several reviewers commend proactive front-desk staff, an attentive concierge and leadership that listens and resolves issues. Contrasting remarks highlight bureaucratic approval processes, occasional poor follow-through on concerns, and instances where privacy procedures are seen as constraining family communication. A few comments raise governance concerns such as perceived favoritism. Emergency-preparedness and safety communication have been flagged in at least one severe-weather event, indicating room for clearer protocols and family notification practices.

Accessibility and market positioning are notable considerations for prospective residents. The community is perceived as premium-priced, with limitations on payer types (cash-focused, limited Medicaid/VA acceptance) that may put it out of reach for some families. Occupancy impressions vary—some reviewers describe a lively environment with a waiting list, others an under-filled feel—suggesting that community vibrancy may change over time.

Overall, New Perspective Howard offers many features associated with higher-end senior living—strong amenities, rehabilitation services and a well-maintained environment—paired with operational areas that prospective residents and families should investigate: dining consistency and dietary accommodations, activity scheduling and cancellations, staff training and turnover, emergency procedures, and administrative responsiveness. A focused tour that includes conversations with care staff, the activities director, dining services and the executive director, plus a review of payer acceptance and emergency plans, will help families assess fit for an individual resident's needs.

    About New Perspective Howard

New Perspective Howard is a senior living community in Howard, Wisconsin, at 2790 Elm Tree Hill in Brown County, serving frail elders and physically disabled people with a range of care types, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care. The place is designed for those who want support but still want to stay active, offering several cozy and spacious living options, such as studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom apartments, or cottages, with modern kitchens, in-apartment washer and dryer units, and pet-friendly policies. There's a warm and friendly feel throughout the building, with staff always on hand and trained to provide help with bathing, dressing, medication, or more specialized memory care for people living with Alzheimer's or other dementia. They keep things running day and night, with a nurse on-site and on-call 24/7, and support for daily needs like housekeeping and laundry.

There's plenty to keep busy, like a warm-water pool, pub, bistro, wood shop, great room for games, movie theater, and a garden patio, as well as an on-site library for reading or movies, and a chapel for religious services. Scheduled daily activities fill the calendar, with card games, dance nights in the hall, gardening, book clubs, live music, and social hours, plus outings into the community. The "Living Life on Purpose®" program tries to help people enjoy life in ways that make sense for them, and there are supportive spaces for relaxation-like fireplaces and lounge areas-alongside fitness rooms and walking paths for those who want to stay active. Dining is handled by chefs on-site, making fresh, healthy meals that aim to please both taste and nutritional needs. Those who need extra help can access on-site therapy services-physical, occupational, and speech-and there's always nurse support, along with transportation, resident parking, and beauty or barber shop services.

For residents who need memory care, the facility sets aside secure areas and specialized programs designed for safety, support, and mental wellness, including a memory care courtyard and structured daily schedules. The whole place is laid out to be comfortable and easy to live in, offering group activities, outings, and spaces for pets, all within a community-based residential setting that includes on-site and off-site activities, complimentary transportation, and services for frail or physically disabled seniors, though people in wheelchairs may find accessibility limited. Office hours run Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The community aims to help people age in place, keep their independence as much as possible, and feel at home, with staff around to help as little or as much as needed.
