    Friendly caring staff, good food

I toured Nice House (about 2 miles from Lakewood) and felt it was a very good match for my mom. She's adjusting well - the facility is clean, safe, and she loves the food. Staff and nurses have been friendly and caring, the owner was pleasant when I met them, and fun activities like karaoke night add to the warm atmosphere. I would visit again and happily bring my mom; I only wish there were a few more organized activities.

    Summary of reviews

QFC Loving Care Santana presents as a small, homelike assisted-living option with several consistent strengths alongside operational limitations. Reviewers commonly describe a clean, attractive environment that feels quiet and personal, and many families noted friendly, caring staff and good-quality meals. The facility’s scale and location (close to Lakewood) are seen as positives for residents who benefit from a small household model and easy access to local amenities.

Care quality appears mixed depending on resident acuity. For lower-acuity residents who need social support and basic daily assistance, the setting was described as a good match: residents reportedly adjusted well, enjoyed the food, and benefitted from attentive interpersonal interactions. However, several comments indicate the facility struggles with staffing consistency and responsiveness. These patterns translate into concerns about delays in attending to residents, limitations in clinical capability for higher-acuity or end-of-life needs, and questions about medication management and use of sedative medications.

Staff and management dynamics are another recurring theme. Many reviewers praised individual caregivers as friendly and helpful, but others described staff interpersonal conflicts and a perception of limited owner or managerial presence in daily operations. Those operational gaps appear to affect oversight and could contribute to variability in care delivery. Additionally, there are specific operational issues noted around caregiver gender matching and privacy during care, which may be important considerations for residents with clear gender or dignity preferences.

Dining and activities are generally positive. Multiple mentions of enjoyable meals and events such as karaoke indicate an engaged, social atmosphere at times, though some families would like a broader or more consistent activities program. The facility’s small size can support personalized attention and a quiet living environment, but that same scale appears to magnify the impact of staffing shortages when they occur.

For prospective residents and families: QFC Loving Care Santana may be a suitable option for those seeking a small, home-like setting with attentive staff and good meals. Families should ask specific operational questions before deciding, including current staffing ratios and contingency plans, availability of gender-concordant caregivers, protocols for medication management and sedation, the facility’s capability to manage higher-acuity needs, and the frequency of managerial oversight. Doing so will help determine whether the facility’s strengths align with the prospective resident’s clinical and personal needs.

    About QFC Loving Care Santana

QFC Loving Care Santana in Bellflower, California, is a small, licensed board and care home, also called a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly or RCFE, that serves up to six seniors in a residential setting. The place has wheelchair access throughout and showers made for easy use, so it works well for residents needing non-ambulatory care or help with mobility challenges, and the staff can assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, toileting, and transferring, including with mechanical lifts for those who need it. QFC Loving Care Santana provides several levels of care, from light to heavy support, allowing folks to remain in place as their needs change, and the community's able to handle diabetic care, blood sugar checks, insulin injections, bowel and bladder incontinence for those who can control their needs, and medication management and reminders. People dealing with memory issues like Alzheimer's or dementia have a secured, purpose-built memory care building and staff trained for memory support, and bracelets with alarms help protect those at risk for wandering or elopement. The staff can also help people who act out physically or have major behavioral needs, and behavioral care is available along with supervision and assistance 24 hours a day. QFC Loving Care Santana offers respite care for short-term stays, and the place charges a community fee plus a separate respite fee for guests.

Residents can choose between private or shared rooms, with private bathrooms and kitchenettes available, all fully furnished, and maintenance is handled by the staff so there's no need to worry about chores or repairs. Meal preparation is done on site, with kosher and vegetarian foods offered, and people can make special requests to fit dietary needs. There's a central dining area and group meals, but residents also have kitchenettes in some rooms. The community provides housekeeping, laundry, and linen services, plus open resident parking and outdoor common spaces including a garden and walking paths. Outdoor and indoor activities fill the schedule-these can include movie nights, group music sessions, supervised walks, recreational events, and social gatherings to encourage staying active, and staff offer on-site and off-site devotional services as well as transportation to appointments or outside events. Beautician and barber services are available too, and the no-smoking policy applies indoors both in private and shared areas.

Technology like emergency alert systems and staff call systems helps keep everyone safe, while the community remains pet-friendly so residents can keep a beloved animal companion. Nurses are on staff, with access to doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, podiatrists, and hospice support. The community's designed for those who wish to stay as independent as possible but need help with daily activities, including medication support, reminders, and monitoring of health conditions. QFC Loving Care Santana takes pride in creating a warm and safe place that feels like home for seniors in need of short-term assistance, long-term support, memory care, or support through health changes, as they provide a wide mix of health, wellness, and therapy services aimed at helping residents stay comfortable and involved in daily life. The facility is fully licensed and subject to regular inspections, making sure care standards are kept up, and it sits close to major hospitals like Bellflower Medical Center and West Anaheim Medical Center for quick access to outside care.
