    Bright home-like, pressured, inconsistent care

I toured the community and appreciated the bright, clean, home-like feel - remodeled bathrooms, sliding glass door and nice backyard views - and many staff were warm and caring. However, there was heavy sales pressure with no clear price quote, inconsistent care (some rooms smelled of urine, food quality varied) and it felt expensive, so I can't fully recommend it without resolving those issues.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but centers around two clear patterns: many reviewers describe First Choice Seniors Home LLC II as a warm, inviting, and well-kept setting with attentive staff and a home-like atmosphere, while a smaller but serious minority report issues with care quality, odors, dining, and pricing. Positive comments repeatedly emphasize a welcoming environment, friendly and caring staff, clean and bright interiors, and recent updates such as remodeled bathrooms, sliding glass doors, and attractive backyard views. Several reviewers explicitly state they are happy with services and describe the community as well-managed and comfortable, suggesting that for many residents or visitors the facility succeeds at creating a pleasant senior-living atmosphere.

Care quality and staff performance are the most polarized themes. Multiple summaries praise the staff as friendly, caring, and professional, and several notes indicate staff were willing to work with prospective residents or families. This suggests good interpersonal interactions and flexibility in admissions or arrangements for many encounters. However, there are also direct reports of poor care and untrained staff. These negative reports are significant because they speak to resident safety and day-to-day wellbeing. The coexistence of positive and negative staff-related comments points to inconsistency in training, staffing levels, or supervision: some residents receive attentive care while others experience lapses.

Facilities and cleanliness are generally seen positively but again show mixed signals. Many reviewers mention clean, bright spaces, remodeled bathrooms, and attractive features such as sliding glass doors and a backyard view. These specific details indicate investments in the physical plant and a pleasant living environment. Conversely, there are troubling reports of rooms that smell of urine, an issue that directly contradicts claims of cleanliness and can indicate problems with housekeeping routines, maintenance, or hygiene protocols. Because odor problems were specifically called out, prospective residents should verify current conditions in person and ask about housekeeping schedules and infection-control/cleaning policies.

Dining is another area of divided opinion. Some reviewers explicitly praise the food as “good,” while at least one summary describes the food as “horrible.” This split suggests variable culinary experiences depending on timing, menu choices, or individual tastes, or it may reflect inconsistency in food preparation and meal service. For families and residents who prioritize dining quality, sampling meals and asking about menu rotation and dietary accommodations would be prudent.

Management, admissions, and pricing raise separate concerns. Several reviewers describe the community as well-managed and community-oriented, which aligns with the positive impressions of staff and facilities. At the same time, there are complaints about sales pressure, a lack of transparent price quotes during the sales process, and perceptions that the facility is expensive. These comments point to potential communication or sales-practice issues: even when the care environment is good, aggressive or opaque sales tactics and unclear pricing can undermine trust. Prospective residents should request written pricing, ask about all fees and contract terms, and be cautious if they feel pressured during tours or sales meetings.

In summary, First Choice Seniors Home LLC II appears to offer an attractive, home-like environment for many residents, with clean, updated spaces, caring staff, and a community feel. However, important concerns—most notably inconsistent care, reports of untrained staff, odor issues in some rooms, mixed dining experiences, and worries about pricing and sales pressure—are repeated enough to merit careful scrutiny. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility at different times of day, meet direct-care staff, request references, sample a meal, inspect room cleanliness (including odor), and obtain clear, written pricing and contract information before deciding. These steps will help distinguish whether the positive reports reflect the typical resident experience or whether the negative issues might affect a given individual living there.

About First Choice Seniors Home LLC II

First Choice Seniors Home LLC II sits in a quiet, safe neighborhood at 8113 Glen Creek Way in Citrus Heights, California, offering care for up to six residents in a cozy board and care home. The community focuses on senior care, with services for those needing help with daily living, medication, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, grooming, laundry, and meal preparation, and there's a nurse on staff and another on call for medical issues. Memory care is a big part of what First Choice Seniors Home LLC II does, and staff use bracelets with alarms and sensors on doors so people with Alzheimer's, dementia, or who might wander get extra protection, and the place stays locked down so residents stay safe. The caregivers can handle residents with diabetes, high needs, incontinence, or physical and behavioral challenges, even if someone's an elopement risk or acts out, and they know how to use both one-person and two-person lifts for transfers. Wireless sensors help staff keep an eye on everyone, monitoring for movement and unusual exits, which is extra help for those with memory loss or mental confusion.

There are both indoor and outdoor common areas where folks can socialize, relax, or maybe sit on the redwood deck under big oak trees or in the flower garden, and all showers are wheelchair accessible for those who need it. Meals come with health in mind, offering different choices like kosher or vegetarian, and there's daily housekeeping and laundry service, plus help arranging rides to doctor appointments, though some transportation needs cost extra. The community lets residents bring small pets like dogs or cats, keeps beautician and barber services for haircuts, offers both onsite and offsite devotional or spiritual services, and plans activities and special memory care programs for those needing mental stimulation. People less than 55 years old can live here, so the age range is pretty flexible, and the place is licensed as a Residential Care Elderly facility, but it doesn't take Medicare and isn't certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It's family owned and has been open for more than ten years, with staff described as caring and joyful, trying hard to create a supportive, comfortable place where everyone feels at home, and the community's won some local awards for its friendly feel and activities. The room cost averages about $3,000 for a one-bedroom memory care unit, and respite care-if a caregiver needs a short break-costs about $150, and hospice is also available if needed. Healthcare providers like nurses, dentists, podiatrists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists sometimes visit, giving extra health support when needed, and the staff will remind residents about daily care and make sure medication is managed correctly. The atmosphere stays warm and inviting, focusing on keeping residents safe, active, comfortable, and independent as their needs change.
