    Clean home, poor behavioral management

I appreciated the very clean, welcoming place — the owner was professional, the staff and residents were nice, and care seemed good in an older, not-fancy home, though it was farther than I wanted. It wasn’t a fit for us: they couldn’t manage minor behavioral issues, suggested antipsychotics while downplaying side effects, and the “family-type” atmosphere felt oversold despite staff explaining their involvement to families.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Hice's Home is mixed but leans positive in several core areas while raising important concerns in others. Reviewers consistently praise cleanliness and the professional tone set by ownership or management. Multiple reviewers describe the facility as very clean and report a welcoming, family-type atmosphere. Staff are frequently noted as friendly and involved; families say staff explain their involvement and that visiting loved ones is comfortable and encouraged. Several people described the tour experience positively, saying they liked the staff and found the residents to be nice. Many reviewers explicitly state that residents receive good care.

At the same time, a clear and recurring concern revolves around behavioral management and clinical decision-making. One or more reviewers reported that the facility was unable to manage minor behavioral issues and that staff suggested using antipsychotic medications. Reviewers linked those medication recommendations to negative effects in their loved ones. This is a significant theme because it directly affects resident safety and family trust; it also contrasts with otherwise positive comments about care quality. Another complaint related to transparency: at least one reviewer mentioned a lack of honesty during the tour, which can undermine confidence in management despite praise for the owner’s professionalism.

Facility and logistical factors are also mixed. The building is described as older and "not fancy," which several reviewers noted; however, that did not necessarily translate into poor cleanliness or poor care. For some families the older home was acceptable given the apparent warmth and attention from staff, while for others it was a drawback. Location was another practical downside for at least one reviewer — the facility was farther away than desired, which could be a material consideration for families who need frequent access.

In sum, Hice's Home appears to offer a clean, family-oriented environment with engaged and friendly staff and generally good care. Prospective families should weigh these strengths against notable concerns about behavioral issue management, the recommendation or use of antipsychotic medications and their reported negative effects, and at least one report of less-than-honest communication during a tour. The facility’s older physical plant and possible distance from some families are additional practical considerations. If you are considering Hice's Home, prioritize a detailed, specific conversation about how they manage behavioral challenges, medication policies and alternatives, and request transparent references or follow-up visits to verify the environment and communication practices.

    About Hice's Home

Hice's Home sits in a quiet spot near Fremont Weir State Wildlife Area and Folsom Lake, and it's a small, licensed senior care home with six beds that focuses on personal attention and comfort, operating under California license #340317873. This community lets seniors live in a home-like setting and offers different kinds of rooms, like studios, single bedrooms, and even shared spaces, and pets such as dogs and cats are allowed, which is good for folks who like having animal company. Staff are on-site around the clock, a nurse is on call, and there are emergency systems built into each room to help keep everyone safe, and there's a special memory care area built with safety in mind for residents with Alzheimer's or dementia, using alarms and secured areas to help with wandering. Residents get help with daily needs-things like bathing, dressing, grooming, incontinence support, and medication reminders-as well as more specialized care, such as diabetic management, wound care, and transfer help, even for people needing lift assistance or who have major behavior issues due to memory problems. There are things to do here, like reading, games, crafting, music, movie nights, and walking outside on trails or tending to the garden, and sometimes there's pet therapy, outdoor trips, and exercise and wellness classes, so people can stay active or enjoy quiet time if they want. Hice's Home provides three homemade meals each day and can make special diets for those with diabetes or high blood pressure, and a staff dietitian helps with planning meals for medical needs. There's transportation available for doctor's visits, shopping trips, spiritual activities, and other outings, plus a mobile barber comes in for haircuts when needed. Everyone can use indoor and outdoor spaces for relaxing or socializing, with areas for games, a reading section, and sometimes spa rooms or areas for quiet time, and the showers are wheelchair accessible. The home's got 24-hour support, respite care for short-term stays, and board and care services for people who need more attention, so as people age or if health changes, help can be adjusted. Hice's Home can also provide pharmacy services, home health care, hospice, and rehabilitation programs, so residents don't have to move if they need more care later. The memory care section has activities made for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, meant to keep minds active and social skills strong, and staff are trained in handling behaviors or medical issues that can sometimes come up in these situations, plus, there's a secured entry with technology such as bracelet alarms to prevent unsafe wandering for those in memory care. The environment is made for safety and a sense of community, and there's a routine of events, meals, and gentle daily living, with a cheerful, caring staff who aim to keep residents comfortable and families reassured. Hice's Home is smoke-free indoors, and while it doesn't take Medicare without the right certification, it offers different ways to handle payment.
