      Compassionate, clean home with caveats

I placed my mom here and appreciated the beautiful, clean home, wonderfully caring and courteous staff, home-cooked meals and family-like atmosphere (even cappuccino and a friendly dog). She received attentive, dignified care with good hospice/doctor coordination and I had real peace of mind. Caveats: rooms are small, the community can be quiet and not very stimulating, and clarify medication policies - we had concerns about sedation/meds given without family notice. Overall I'd recommend touring multiple places, but this is an excellent choice for compassionate, personalized care.

      About Seniors Nest

Seniors Nest sits up in the Valencia foothills in a small, comfortable house that feels homey, and the place is easy to find when driving through the neighborhood. The facility is called both a Senior Living Community and an Adult Care Home, because it brings together assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, and board and care home services. Seniors Nest only accommodates six residents, so people there get a lot of individual attention and it stays quiet and calm. The administrator's name is Halina Wrobel and the staff, who are described as friendly and caring, stay on hand around the clock to help. Each resident has a care plan that the staff follows, with choices between private or shared rooms-rooms come fully furnished, with their own phones, kitchenettes, private bathrooms (including wheelchair accessible showers), air conditioning, and internet and cable. Some rooms even have views of the garden or walking paths. People can bring their own pets, and each person can join in activities, either in the home or out in the larger community, with organized outings and garden gatherings.

There's a big focus on meals here. Seniors Nest has organic food, kosher and vegetarian plans, and they use meal planners and chefs to look after balanced nutrition. Residents can eat in the dining room and get meals planned for a variety of special diets, even those designed for chronic illness. Staff help residents with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, walking, toileting, and transferring from beds or chairs, and they manage medications for everyone who needs it, including injections for diabetes. People at Seniors Nest get housekeeping, laundry, and fresh linens as part of their stay, and scheduled transportation with a driver takes people to doctor's offices and out on daily errands, and residents get parking spaces if they drive.

The community makes a point to work alongside healthcare providers and specialists such as podiatrists, dentists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists. Nurses remain on staff and on call for both checkups and emergencies. Memory care is available, with regular activities for people with Alzheimer's, as well as exercise, social events, skill-building, and gardening. Residents can use the swimming pool, hot tub, indoor and outdoor common rooms, and participate in board games, cooking activities, group meals, and devotional services offsite. Hospice and respite stays are also offered when families need temporary help or end-of-life care.

There's a policy of welcoming families and keeping them involved, and the home makes an effort to set up daily routines and meaningful activities for residents, making sure no one is left out. Seniors Nest offers a peaceful, well-kept setting and has a Seniorly score of 8.6, and many people pick it for the cozy, small feel where people know each other and staff, and for the special care for conditions like cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, heart disease, Alzheimer's, depression, incontinence, and diabetes. The rooms are limited to ten or fewer per home, so every resident gets support for their health, safety, and wellbeing, along with a sense of belonging and comfort.
