    Stunning campus excellent staff pricey

I live here and the place is stunning - spectacular, hotel-like apartments with granite kitchens, gorgeous pool and views of the golf course and open space (deer and wild turkeys), and privacy is respected. The staff are abundant, professional and genuinely caring (very helpful, knowledgeable, generous with their time), and the campus offers endless amenities: art rooms, gardens, movie theater, game/card rooms and excellent service. Dining is a mixed bag - a renowned chef and restaurant-quality lunches, but recent policy changes (meal-point charges, required reservations, slow service, infrequent menu changes) and some administrative confusion have been frustrating. It's first-class and beautifully maintained, but very expensive and management/contract transparency gave me pause.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive about the physical property, staffing, and many day‑to‑day living features, but with recurring and specific criticisms centered on dining administration, pricing, and management transparency. Multiple reviewers praise Fountaingrove Lodge as a beautifully appointed, modern, and well‑maintained community with award‑winning architecture and luxurious public spaces. Apartments are frequently described as spectacular — spacious, modern, and well finished (granite countertops, apartment‑style kitchens) — and common areas (pool, game rooms, movie theater, art rooms, gardens) are highlighted as high quality and varied. The location is noted for scenic views of a golf course and open space, with wildlife often visible, contributing to a pleasant setting.

Staff and care are among the most consistently lauded aspects. Reviewers call the staff top‑notch, friendly, helpful, professional, and caring; some cite an unusually high staff‑to‑resident ratio (about 1:2). Tour guides are described as knowledgeable and responsive, snacks and extras are provided, and the general resident atmosphere is described as cordial with privacy respected. Several comments equate the feel of the community to a first‑class hotel, and multiple reviewers say they have seen few facilities that match Fountaingrove’s level of finish and service.

Dining and food quality appear to be a polarized area. On one hand, the community employs a renowned chef and many reviewers mention restaurant‑quality lunches and outstanding meals with variety. On the other hand, there are multiple, specific complaints about dining administration and execution: a meal‑point system with monthly charges that do not roll over, required reservations, slow service in the dining room, inconsistent or changing dining rules, and a perception that fine‑dining promises are not always fulfilled. Some reviewers report dull, repetitive menus and infrequent menu changes. These operational and policy issues — especially the non‑rolling meal points and shifting rules — create frustration and a sense of misalignment between marketing promises and lived experience.

Cost and contract transparency are another frequent theme. Several reviewers flagged pricing as expensive or out of their range and noted high deposits. There are also accusations or concerns about higher‑than‑promised rent increases and perceived misrepresentation in marketing or contract terms tied to management (specifically referencing distrust of Oakmont management in one comment). At least one reviewer mentions a financial option (a 90% refund option and a five‑year declining option), indicating there are multiple buy‑in/refund models available; however, overall impressions of value vary among reviewers. This mixed sentiment on cost — some saying pricing is within range, others calling it too expensive — suggests that financial acceptability depends on individual budgets and expectations.

Activities and amenities are plentiful and generally praised, but a few reviewers find the sheer volume of offerings potentially overwhelming. The active calendar, social opportunities, and numerous on‑site amenities are strengths for those seeking engagement, while some prospective residents may find the pace or number of activities too much. Pet‑friendliness (dogs on site) and visible wildlife add to the community’s appeal for animal‑lovers and those who value nature.

In sum, the dominant positives are exceptional facilities, strong and caring staff, and a broad array of amenities that create a luxury, hotel‑like experience. The dominant negatives are operational and administrative: complex or poorly explained dining policies, inconsistent dining quality despite a noted chef, cost and deposit concerns, and some worries about management transparency and contractual promises. Prospective residents should weigh the high level of physical quality and staffing against the specific dining policy and cost issues; they should ask direct, specific questions about the meal‑point system, reservation requirements, menu rotation, deposit/refund terms, and recent trends in monthly fees or rent increases before deciding.

    About Fountaingrove Lodge

Fountaingrove Lodge is a senior living community made for active LGBTQ+ older adults and their friends, where everyone can feel welcome and safe while being themselves, and you know, the place really does pay attention to dignity and acceptance because it's got features that make life easier and more comfortable, like two-bedroom apartments with cable, internet, and private cleaning, plus some units allow pets, which can mean a lot if you've always had one around. You can find a range of services, including independent living, assisted living, nursing and rehab, adult day care, and memory care, with skilled nurses and staff on the grounds 24 hours a day to help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, medication, and even oxygen and continence care if that's needed, and they seem to tailor support to what each person wants and needs, offering things like in-house religious services or psychological support if you ask. There's a full-time nurse, on-site physical therapy, and special coordination for doctor visits, speech, podiatry, and hospice, and if you're someone with memory care needs, The Terraces at Fountaingrove Lodge offers a cozy common area, special programs, and a secure setting inside a lush campus with nice outdoor patios, gardens, and even scenic sunset views behind a golf course with walking areas nearby. The dining room stands out with high ceilings, wood beams, a stone fireplace, and lots of natural light, and meals are made by an executive chef and a trained culinary team that know how to get the details right, so you can expect freshly cooked food, snacks, and special meals. Activity-wise, residents can join game nights, book clubs, yoga, arts and crafts, and a cooking club, or just relax with movie nights in a comfy theater with reclining chairs and a big screen, and there's a bar and lounge with a wine cave for social time if you want, or you can spend time in the gym, pool, or out on the patio with friends. If folks have guests over, there's parking, meal allowances, and overnight stays allowed, which is a nice touch, and WiFi is free throughout. The rooms are thoughtfully planned for comfort, both single and semi-private, and the place is secured with an emergency call system, so there's a sense of safety if anyone needs help at odd hours. Housekeeping, laundry, and personal cleaning services are available so no one has to worry about chores, and the staff can help with shopping or even drive residents to town with a chauffeured service, since the Lodge sits within walking distance of shopping, dining, arts, and entertainment, which makes getting out pretty easy. The Lodge stands as the first LGBT independent senior living community in the country with the option of continuing care services, meaning you can stay with your friends and keep your support system even as your needs change, which a lot of people seem to appreciate. The community is run by Oakmont Senior Living, and the grounds are well-kept with lots of common spaces-like bistros, computer areas, and gardens-where people can read or just visit, while staff organize engaging programs, help new residents find activities they enjoy, and make sure wellness and social needs are balanced right alongside privacy and independence, so people can take part as much or as little as they like.
