    Caring staff, risky management problems

I toured this large, resort-like Lutheran community and appreciated the caring, bilingual staff, personalized care, many activities (pool/yoga/dance/crafts), indoor/outdoor pools, golf course, spacious 2-bedrooms, good security and transportation. However, management communication is poor and after-hours calls often go unanswered; the community has had repeated hurricane flooding, sewage/mold problems, displaced residents, misrepresented memory-care abilities, and occasional staffing/service gaps. Overall the staff are sweet and residents seem happy, but high costs, dated infrastructure, and serious safety/management concerns make it a decent option - not the best.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans toward positive impressions of staff, activities, and campus amenities, tempered by serious concerns about infrastructure, emergency preparedness, communication, and inconsistent services. Reviewers repeatedly praise the size and amenities of the campus — it is described as large and resort-like with a golf course, golf-cart friendly roads, an on-site store, an on-campus community center, indoor and outdoor pools, and substantial apartment options including 2- and 3-bedroom units. Multiple living formats (apartments and manufactured homes) and multiple levels of care (independent living, assisted living, memory care, and on-site inpatient rehab) make the campus attractive to families looking for continuum-of-care options. The community is Lutheran-run, accepts most health insurance plans, and several reviewers noted that staff are vaccinated against COVID-19.

Care quality and staffing are recurring positive themes in many reviews. Many residents and family members described staff as caring, knowledgeable, and personalized in their approach; RNs were specifically called out as “on point.” Spanish-speaking staff and an overall agradable, buen ambiente were noted as strengths for Spanish-speaking residents and families. The facility offers robust programming — pool-based activities, yoga, dance, crafts, bingo, church services, and a wellness trainer — which contributes to active social engagement. Transportation services to medical appointments and shopping, a secure campus with good security measures, and 24-hour visiting policies were also appreciated.

Dining and living logistics are a mixed picture. Reviews describe multiple dining formats (cafeteria self-serve, order-off-menu, and full-service dining) and a generally pleasant dining room environment, with dining hours reported from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. However, there are repeated notes that some meal costs are extra unless a higher level of care is purchased, and at least one reviewer reported receiving only one meal per day and wanting three — indicating inconsistent provisioning or mismatched expectations. Room layouts are spacious, but some apartments reportedly lack in-room washrooms which may be important for residents seeking en-suite facilities.

The most serious and recurring concerns relate to infrastructure, emergency response, and management communication. Multiple reviewers described significant storm-related failures: flooding during hurricanes, raw sewage backups, water contamination, and subsequent mold growth. These events reportedly displaced residents, required clean-up and remediation, and occurred repeatedly according to reviews. Several accounts criticized management for poor communication during and after these events — delayed or absent responses to displaced residents, lack of clear information, and generally poor admissions communications when families raised urgent concerns. Health inspection deficiencies and outdated portions of the facility were mentioned, suggesting some regulatory or maintenance issues that potential residents should investigate further.

Operational and admissions issues also appear across reviews. Some families reported being denied admission or told the memory-care units could handle needs when in fact staff could not meet those needs, indicating possible misrepresentation or inconsistent capabilities across the seven communities on campus. Several reviewers noted after-hours phone calls go unanswered and that staffing levels appear insufficient at times. The campus layout — large and spread out — was cited as creating mobility challenges for some residents, and reviewers recommended more exits and easier entry/egress points for safety and convenience.

Cost and value considerations are mixed. While many reviewers appreciated service quality, programming, and the campus environment, there are consistent complaints about high monthly costs and additional charges for meals or services. Some reviewers placed the community within their top choices but not necessarily the best overall, reflecting a trade-off between amenities and the risks or weaknesses described above.

In summary, Good Samaritan Society - Kissimmee Village - Inpatient Rehab presents a compelling option in terms of campus amenities, activity programming, and generally caring staff — with strong nursing presence and bilingual personnel. At the same time, prospective residents and families should carefully investigate infrastructure resilience (especially hurricane/flood history and remediation), management communication practices, documented health inspection results, specific memory-care capabilities, staffing levels (including after-hours coverage), and exact costs (what is included versus extra). Visiting in person, asking for written policies about emergency procedures, reviewing recent inspection reports, and confirming specifics of admission criteria for memory care would help families weigh the facility’s many positives against the documented concerns.

About Good Samaritan Society - Kissimmee Village - Inpatient Rehab

Good Samaritan Society - Kissimmee Village - Inpatient Rehab sits on over 425 acres, offering plenty of space and a community atmosphere that's been valued in Kissimmee for many years, and with its historical roots, many locals know it well. The facility's run by the Good Samaritan Society, a non-profit group with a long reputation for caring for older adults and folks with medical needs, and they focus on skilled nursing care for people who need help after a hospital stay or surgery, or for those living with Alzheimer's and dementia, since the staff handles daily care with patience. People can find services such as post-operative recovery, wound care, and support with things like dressing, medication, and bathing, and there are 39 certified beds out of 161 available so it's not so busy that people get lost in the shuffle. Nursing shifts run 12 to 16 hours at a time, and someone's always on-call if there's a problem. The place has received awards and accreditations for its care and resident satisfaction, with ongoing reviews by groups who check that residents get treated well.

Residents can join activities and social programs, with movie nights, music, games, arts rooms, and scheduled daily events, and there's a strong club scene for various hobbies, as well as a pet park and walking paths for enjoying time outdoors, while a fitness center, wellness spa, swimming pools, tennis courts, a golf course, and community center round out the list of things to do. Dining comes restaurant-style, and the facility's kitchen can handle special diets for those with allergies or diabetes, and people can relax in a library, movie theater, or the gardens, whether gathering in groups or simply spending some quiet time. Apartments feature furnished rooms, kitchenettes, private bathrooms, and high-speed internet, and the building's staffed round the clock to keep folks safe, while transportation, parking, and move-in help make the process easier. Family members can join councils that meet to talk about how to make life better there, and many appreciate the staff's approach to helping residents live in a way that suits them best. The motto, "In Christ's Love, Everyone is Someone," runs through a lot of what they do, and there's a chapel on site for those who wish to worship. The campus has views along Shingle Creek, and there's a marina, RV and boat storage for people who like to keep active even in retirement. The facility takes both Medicare and Medicaid, and people can also find day and respite care for children and adults, with a range of therapies offered including intravenous, massage, respiratory, wound vacuum, restorative, music, and recreational therapies. The Good Samaritan Society's Kissimmee Village isn't part of a larger Continuing Care Retirement Community, but there's a full range of care here, from independent living to assisted living, long-term care, rehabilitation therapy, memory care, and hospice, so residents' needs are met as they change over time, always with a focus on dignity and respect.
