    Caring staff but dated facilities

I moved my mom here and overall she's well cared for - the staff are genuinely kind, the campus and grounds are beautiful, the apartments are roomy, and there are lots of activities and rehab options. Dining and food service are mixed (good at times but often heavy, limited healthy/low-sugar choices and staffing delays). Many buildings and common areas feel dated - dark lobbies, old carpeting, occasional leaks, elevator/maintenance problems and inconsistent cleanliness. Communication and sales follow-through can be spotty and some staff have been rude; it's also expensive with high fees. If you can afford it and value caring staff and amenities, it's worth considering - but insist on written promises and inspect the actual unit and services first.

    About Lake Port Square

Lake Port Square sits right on the shores of Lake Harris in Leesburg, Florida, on a wide 78-acre campus with walking paths and a lakefront dock that give you a quiet, green place to enjoy the outdoors, and you can see residents biking, gardening, and taking boats out, which keeps the days active and pleasant. This retirement community offers a mix of care types all on one campus, so someone can move from independent living to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even long-term care pretty easily as health needs change, and the place is set up as a Life Plan Community with a Life Care contract for financial stability and easy access to the care needed along the way. For folks who value privacy and comfort, there are spacious studios and one- or two-bedroom apartments, and some have views of the lake or the landscaped gardens, and there's plenty of room to walk pets since it's pet-friendly, and you don't have to worry much about repairs because of the maintenance-free retirement setup.

The independent living buildings are nicer and more updated than the assisted living ones, which have rooms that are clean and just fine but have bathrooms described as small and older, though they are kept up very well. For families who need specialized memory care, Lake Port Square has a section for adults with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, and for those who need skilled nursing, there's a licensed facility right on site. There's a strong focus on wellness, fitness, and keeping residents busy and happy with indoor activities-things like yoga, fitness classes, art, and creative hobbies-and there's a big schedule of programs, outings, and social events if someone wants to get involved. Amenities include a coming-soon waterside bistro, ice cream shop, salon and spa, and a large multi-purpose room, with upgrades to the fitness center planned for 2025, and there are also regular meals, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, security, and help with daily activities available.

People talk about its variety of food and drink options, like coffeehouses, tea rooms, bubble tea stores, cafes, and even different restaurants such as Asian, Sicilian, Southern, Vietnamese, buffet-style, chicken, pizza, and Western food, and guests can stay in nearby hotels if needed since there are a lot of choices from simple to fancy. There are special programs like Flex Your Future that let incoming residents choose different entrance fee options, including ways to get some of that money refunded later, and that can help families plan finances. Lake Port Square has earned a rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars from 66 reviews, which reflects mostly positive feelings from residents and families about living there, safety, and quality of staff, though like any place, some things may not suit everyone. New features and updates roll out over time, but the main aim stays the same-offering older adults a safe, maintenance-free spot with flexible care and plenty to do, so they can stay social, active, and comfortable as they age.
