    Luxurious community with costly drawbacks

I toured and ultimately moved into this gorgeous, state-of-the-art community - immaculate grounds and apartments, five excellent on-site restaurants, and truly top-notch dining. The staff and tour team are attentive, friendly and professional, and the activity calendar (golf/tennis/pickleball, theater outings, fitness, spa) keeps things lively. It's luxurious with PGA access, chauffeurs and full services, but it's very expensive with a sizable buy-in and some frustrating contract/fee issues; I recommend it if you can comfortably afford it and don't mind a longer drive to medical appointments.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive, with frequent praise for the facility’s high-end, resort-style environment and robust activity and amenity offerings. Reviewers repeatedly highlight the community as a five-star, luxury option with gorgeous grounds, state-of-the-art spaces following a reported $30 million upgrade, and direct access to PGA National golf and other sports. The property is described as meticulously maintained and visually appealing, with lake views, well-groomed landscaping, and attractive interior finishes. Many reviewers emphasize that the community feels upscale and modern and that residents and visitors consistently remark on its beauty.

Staff quality and service are among the clearest strengths noted across reviews. Comments describe the staff as experienced, attentive, friendly, and well-trained; service is called first-class, with particular reference to no-tipping policies, timely meals, and supportive maintenance and fitness staff. Several reviews single out the tour guides and front-line employees as tremendous, and multiple accounts emphasize a welcoming, caring culture where staff are responsive, patient, and dedicated. Chauffeur and valet services, as well as in-building conveniences such as a bank, beauty salon, and barber, contribute to the impression of a full-service community that reduces day-to-day friction for residents.

Dining and food service receive repeated, enthusiastic mention. The presence of five on-site restaurants, a snack area, and menu-preview or choice options is a recurring positive. Many reviews report 4–5 star dining experiences, including specialty seafood nights and consistently delicious meals. Reviewers appreciate the variety and quality—ranging from formal dining rooms to casual snack options—and several note the dining experience as a major selling point. Cleanliness and overall maintenance extend to dining spaces, which contributes to consistently favorable impressions of meals and food-service operations.

The activity program is robust and diverse, appealing to active seniors. Sports offerings (golf, tennis, croquet, pickleball), pools, spa and fitness facilities, theater outings, nightly activities, and a busy calendar ensure there is “always something to do.” Reviewers describe an upbeat, lively atmosphere with frequent events, which many find energizing and social. That said, a few reviewers characterize the vibe as relatively young or not a classic independent-living feel; this may be a stylistic match or mismatch depending on a prospective resident’s expectations.

Cost, contracts, and perceived value are the most consistent negatives across the reviews. Multiple reviewers call the community expensive, pointing to high buy-in requirements and substantial monthly costs. There is recurring concern about affordability and whether the price reflects value for all potential residents; some explicitly state it is recommended only for those who can comfortably afford it. A buy-in contract and references to cancellation fees are mentioned as pain points; reviewers advise careful review of contract terms. One positive related to contracts is the cited “move-up” option at no extra charge, though this does not offset broader concerns about buy-in affordability for many.

A minority of reviewers reported management or administrative problems worth noting. These comments are less frequent than the praise but are pointed: issues described include demands for cancellation fees, perceived unprofessionalism, threats around salary deductions, and frustrations with business practices or recruiting communications. While most reviewers report excellent and caring staff, these isolated accounts suggest prospective residents should probe administrative practices and dispute-resolution policies during tours and contract negotiations.

Location receives mixed feedback. Many reviewers praise proximity to PGA National amenities and describe the site as convenient for leisure and on-site services. Others counter that the community can feel remote or hard to find and that some residents face long drives to doctors or medical specialists. As such, location suitability appears dependent on an individual’s medical needs and relationship to local healthcare providers.

In summary, Devonshire Senior Living Community at PGA National is consistently portrayed as a high-end, activity-rich, and service-oriented senior living option ideal for financially comfortable seniors who prioritize luxury, amenities, and an active social lifestyle. The strongest assets are the quality of care and service, extensive amenities and sports offerings, outstanding dining, and beautiful, well-maintained facilities. The primary concerns are cost and contractual terms (buy-in and fees), occasional administrative complaints, and variable suitability depending on proximity to a resident’s healthcare providers or preference for a more traditional independent-living environment. Prospective residents should tour the property, sample dining and activities, and carefully review contract specifics—especially buy-in, cancellation policies, and service guarantees—before committing.

About Devonshire Senior Living Community at PGA National

Devonshire Senior Living Community at PGA National sits at 350 Devonshire Way in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and offers several options for seniors, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care, which means a person can get more help if their needs change down the line. The place is licensed as both an Assisted Living Facility (#9586) and a Skilled Nursing Facility (#130471003). There's a special "Life Care" commitment, called a Type A Life Care contract, where residents get access to unlimited assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing at a fixed monthly cost, and folks can choose floor plans like one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and even ones with a den or library, so there's something for different tastes and budgets, and the entrance fee comes with options for either a 90% Refundable or Declining Balance plan, which some people find reassuring.

The community is part of the Erickson Living network and sits right in PGA National, so there's a pretty large, park-like campus with lots of gardens, secure walkways, and climate-controlled hallways that connect the residences with amenities like a fitness center, a salon/barbershop, a dining room, and spaces for different activities. The independent living homes are described as open and modern, all equipped with kitchens or kitchenettes, washers and dryers, cable TV, and safety features like handrails and sprinklers; housekeeping, laundry, and repair work are included, so nobody's fussing over chores.

Residents get meals in the on-site dining room, and the monthly service package rolls in almost everything, like lawn care, property taxes, repairs, security, scheduled rides, social programs, and even cable TV. Seniors who live here have lots of ways to stay busy, whether taking art and education classes, making crafts, or joining health and wellness activities; the place even has a game room that's always open for something going on. Devonshire gets a community rating of 4.4 out of 5, and it's sized for folks 62 and over, with plenty of opportunities to socialize, walk the grounds, or just relax. Behind the scenes, there's medical care like podiatry, nursing support, help with medication, and wound care, and the staff can help with all those daily things, including assistance with walking, bathing, dressing, or memory support for folks living with Alzheimer's or dementia.

The location feels private with guest parking and a gated entrance, and wifi internet keeps everyone connected while professional landscapers keep the gardens looking good year-round. The community's goal is to help seniors enjoy freedom from chores and home upkeep, while still having options for care, comfort, and a little fun.
