    Caring staff and restaurant-quality dining

I moved in and I love it: the staff are caring, professional and responsive; the dining is restaurant-quality; the Skidaway Island campus is beautiful and immaculately maintained; activities, transportation and maintenance-free living keep me busy and independent; and on-site skilled nursing/rehab give me peace of mind. Move-in was smooth and service is prompt - demand is high (waitlist) and it can be pricey, but for me it's been the best decision.

    About Marshes of Skidaway Island

Marshes of Skidaway Island sits on 58 acres on Skidaway Island in Savannah, and you'll find it has a relaxed, small community feel with plenty of comforts for seniors who want a safe, secure, and comfortable place to live. The campus is pretty big, over 50 acres, with cottages, townhomes, duplexes, and apartment villas-each with different floor plans, including some with up to two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, full kitchens, decks, sunporches, and garages, and even some basement or bonus rooms. Assisted living apartments and studios are available and come with one bedroom and one bathroom in sizes from 478 to 525 square feet, so people can move straight into assisted living when they need to, without having to start in independent living first. The community has 21-30 licensed assisted living or personal care residences, along with 11-20 private nursing care beds and a handful of semi-private nursing beds, so there are quite a few options to get the right type of care. People can also bring in outside caregivers or in-home care services if they wish.

You'll see that they run as a nonprofit Life Plan Community, which is also called a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), and they have a focus on making sure people can stay for life if they wish, using an upfront entrance fee model that comes with a 90% refund option if you move out under certain conditions. Entry fees for a single person range from about $294,000 up to nearly $780,000, and monthly fees start at about $3,200 and go up to almost $6,000, with higher rates for couples. Three different contract types are available, including a Modified (Type B) contract, so people can pick a plan that suits them. Couples and singles can find floor plans in all shapes and sizes, including apartments with private balconies or decks, and all the homes come with air conditioning, cable or satellite TV, and high-speed internet. The place is pet-friendly with no breed or size restrictions, which is rare.

The health side's good too, as Marshes has a Medicare-certified skilled care center called The Preston Health Center with 62 beds, offering both long-term care and short-term rehab, plus respite stays, and there's a physician-run clinic right on-site as well. Their Homelife on Glynco personal care home has options for memory care, personal care, short-term care, and respite care. Staff help with medication management, daily activities, nutrition or diet advice, and give counseling if needed, and everything's arranged by professional caretakers who help tailor plans to what each resident actually needs. The campus itself is easy to get around with wheelchair accessibility, plenty of parking, and even transportation services for shopping or outings. They offer laundry and housekeeping, take care of maintenance, and have emergency call systems for peace of mind.

People living here can stay busy with a lot of hobbies and activities, whether it's bocce ball, book clubs, golf, lifelong learning, theater, or water aerobics, and folks like to join meditation, fellowship, or worship groups. The community pool has lockers, and the fitness center and games room are popular, while the woodworking shop and library let people work on crafts or relax with a book. Restaurant-style dining means meals are prepared by chefs, with a reputation for good food that's even won awards. Residents can pick from reading rooms, lounges, and even a private dining room, plus outdoor seating when it's nice.

All residences come with safety and comfort in mind, backed up by 24/7 professional staff, while security and maintenance people keep things running. Marshes has kept adding to and updating the place, with recent projects costing several million dollars going into the Oaks Health Center and upgrades to the library and dining areas. There's a sense of true independence here, with a wide choice of unit sizes, full kitchens, and the flexibility to choose home care solutions as you wish-so seniors can live as active or as relaxed as they like. The community lets you schedule visits or virtual tours, and there's a Future Resident Club for folks waiting to move in, making things easy if you want to learn more about what living there might actually be like. Marshes of Skidaway Island aims to offer peace of mind for the future, combining the feel of small-town living with access to care and convenience in one of Savannah's nicest areas.
