    Nice amenities, persistent maintenance problems

I had a mixed experience. The facility is clean, nicely located in Claremont Village with shops/restaurants nearby, friendly staff, lots of activities, in-unit kitchens, pool/spa and pet-friendly grounds - some units even had fresh paint and new flooring. But the building shows its age: persistent maintenance issues, long waits for heating repairs, missing safety rails and occasional out-of-pocket repairs for residents - those problems drove me to move out, so I cannot recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Claremont Villas is mixed but leans toward positive for many practical and lifestyle features. Multiple reviewers highlight the community as affordable, gated, and safe, with convenient physical features such as elevators and air conditioning. Apartments are frequently described as clean and well-kept, with several mentions of fresh paint, new carpets, new flooring, and supplied refrigerators. Many residents appreciate in-unit kitchens and ample kitchen amenities that enable self-cooked meals, and patios, an outdoor pool and spa add to the appeal. Location is a strong selling point: the facility is within walking distance of shops and restaurants in the scenic Claremont Village. Activity programming (bingo, market trips, and other social opportunities) is noted as plentiful, and the community is described as pet-friendly. Several reviewers praise the admission process as shorter-than-expected and report that staff are professional, attentive, and friendly.

Care quality and staff interactions are among the most consistently positive themes. Numerous reviews specifically call out staff as great, attentive, and professional; residents report feeling that their family members are doing well and even highly recommend the place based on staff performance. Management responsiveness receives praise in some reviews — reviewers say management is responsive and that maintenance requests are handled — which supports the impression of a well-managed community for many residents.

However, a notable minority of reviews report serious and recurring maintenance and safety problems. These negative reports describe persistent maintenance issues, long delays for heating repairs, and even missing safety rails in some areas. One account asserts that residents had to pay for their own repairs, and another review characterizes the property as rundown and explicitly not recommended. This creates a pattern of inconsistent experiences: while some residents experience prompt, helpful maintenance that results in newly refreshed units, others experience long wait times and unaddressed safety concerns. The mixed descriptions of management — both “responsive” and “slow to fix heating” — suggest variability either over time, between different apartments, or across staff shifts.

Facility and unit characteristics also show contrasts. Positive descriptions note clean, nicely updated apartments with patios and useful amenities like in-unit kitchens and refrigerators. At the same time, the property is acknowledged as an older building with smaller rooms, which may not suit those seeking larger, more modern floor plans. The presence of a pool, spa, and a scenic village location are appealing amenities, but prospective residents should weigh the tradeoff between lower cost/central location and smaller unit sizes or older building infrastructure.

Recommendations are therefore split: many reviewers highly recommend Claremont Villas because of staff, cleanliness, location, and activities, while a few strongly advise against it due to maintenance, safety, and management complaints. For prospective residents or family members evaluating the community, the reviews suggest asking specific questions about recent maintenance history, average response times for repairs (especially heating), safety features (rails, grab bars), and the policies for who bears the cost of unit repairs. Visiting multiple units, speaking directly with current residents, and confirming the condition of common areas and individual apartments will help assess whether the positive experiences reported by many are representative for the specific unit and building you are considering.

    About Claremont Villas

Claremont Villas sits at 100 South Indian Hill Boulevard in Claremont, California, and has been around since 1997, so it's had some time to serve seniors in the Oakmont neighborhood. This community has 153 senior apartment units, each with one bedroom and one bathroom and about 472 square feet of space, and many of the apartments have bathtubs for easy access. The living is pet-friendly, so residents may bring cats and dogs, and there's assigned parking available along with on-site laundry for convenience. Folks can expect both indoor and outdoor gathering areas, a community room, a swimming pool, and a spa, and for those who like to get out and about, transportation is available. There are programs for the arts, including different art mediums and performing arts, as well as life skills and computer classes, so there's always something going on for folks wanting to stay busy or learn.

This is mainly a senior independent living community, and residents can get help with tasks like bathing, dressing, and medication management if they need it, but it's set up to help people keep their independence as long as possible. Staff can help with daily care, and there's respite care for those who need a short stay or caregivers who need a break. Memory care is available for folks who might have dementia, with programs to help reduce confusion and prevent wandering. The place does offer assisted living options and even has nursing home care if someone needs short or long-term 24-hour nursing support, along with residential care home features for those needing a bit more, like a live-in caregiver for daily activities, and there are also home care services for companionship and non-medical assistance from aides.

Claremont Villas makes social life and wellness a priority, offering fitness classes and active aging programs, and it's set up to support the comfort and safety of seniors living there. The building was made to help residents connect with each other and to encourage staying active, without being fancy or over the top, and there's a quiet, supportive feeling around. The apartments are affordable for seniors, and the property follows fair housing rules, protecting residents from housing and employment discrimination based on gender identity, orientation, or income source. Details are not available on fees, apartment interiors, or exactly what's included with utilities, and specifics about building entrance or outdoor features haven't been shared, but internet service is nearby. The community posts plenty of photos for people who want to get a better look at daily life there before deciding.
