    Restored building with ongoing problems

I live at Hatton House and have mixed feelings. New, professional onsite management and background‑checked staff have restored the building—secure, hotel‑style entrance, elevator, fantastic activities, great staff and a doctor-on-call—but persistent maintenance and service failures (non-working pool, major appliance problems, overflowing dumpster), roach infestations in walls/floors, rent increases and a questionable lease, plus poor access to medical care and a van that never moves, make me only cautiously recommend it until those issues are fixed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is mixed and highly polarized. Several reviewers praise the property for improvements tied to new or professional management, citing onsite leadership that has a reputation for restoring communities, background checks for staff, and visible communication such as live YouTube updates. At the same time, other reviewers report serious and persistent problems with maintenance, pest control, services, and management decisions that undermine confidence in the community. The reviews do not present a single clear picture; rather they indicate two distinct experiences: one group describing a safe, active, well-run facility, and another describing significant operational and sanitary failures.

Care quality and staff: Reviews include strong positive statements about staff and care from some residents or observers, including descriptors like outstanding staff, doctor on call, and highly recommended. Background checks and professional management experience are highlighted as steps toward ensuring quality personnel. However, there are also strong negative impressions of ownership and management attitude: some reviewers describe the owner/management as uncaring and focused on rent increases. This creates a tension between reports of caring, competent frontline staff and concerns about higher-level management priorities and responsiveness.

Facilities and maintenance: Facilities are described in contradictory terms. Positive mentions include an elevator and a large hotel-style entrance, suggesting a presentable lobby and accessibility features. Conversely, multiple serious maintenance and sanitation issues are reported: a non-working pool, major appliance failures, an overflowing dumpster, and a roach infestation with reports of roaches in walls and floors. These latter problems indicate ongoing pest control and maintenance lapses that could affect health, comfort, and overall living conditions. The coexistence of well-appointed public spaces and severe backend maintenance problems is a notable pattern.

Activities, services, and transportation: Activities are consistently praised (fantastic/outstanding activities program), which is a strong positive for resident engagement and quality of life. Transportation and medical access reports are mixed and contradictory: some reviewers report reliable transportation and a doctor on call, while others say the van never moves and the facility is far from medical help and lacks services. This split suggests variability in service delivery or differences in individual experiences; transportation and medical support may be inconsistent or dependent on circumstances not described in the summaries.

Management, policies, and value: Management changes and communication (live updates, onsite leadership) are seen as positives by some reviewers and indicators of improvement. However, complaints about rent increases, an alleged illegal lease, and perceptions of poor value are significant negatives that point to possible contractual, financial, or transparency issues. The allegation of an illegal lease is a serious concern reported by reviewers and would warrant direct verification. Taken together, these critiques suggest that even where operational or staffing strengths exist, they may be undermined by financial practices and governance that residents find unfavorable.

Notable patterns and recommendations based on the reviews: The dominant theme is a polarized resident experience—many positives around activities, certain staff, and some management initiatives, but also major and repeated negatives centered on maintenance, pest control, service reliability, and management/ownership behavior. If evaluating this community further, it would be important to verify the status of pest control and maintenance (pool, appliances, trash handling), clarify transportation schedules and medical support availability, and review lease terms and recent rent history given the reported increases and alleged illegal lease. The mixed nature of the reviews suggests improvements in some operational areas under new management, but persistent, serious issues remain for others, producing a split set of impressions about quality, safety, and value.
