    Friendly staff; clean, pleasant neighborhood

I toured recently and was very impressed - staff and residents are friendly and accommodating, Kathy in the office was great, and the tour guide was informative. The building and apartments are clean, parking is spacious, and the neighborhood is pleasant; a planned remodel makes it a very good option and I'm seriously considering moving my mom there.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the provided reviews is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers emphasize cleanliness of the apartments and grounds, describing units as "very clean" and "clean and nice," which suggests consistently maintained living spaces. Several comments highlight a welcoming, family-like atmosphere; one reviewer explicitly calls it a "home for Mom" and others note that "people who are just like family" live there. That pattern indicates residents and families perceive the community as warm and supportive.

Staff and management receive repeated praise. Kathy in the office is singled out by name as "great to work with," and reviewers describe staff as good and accommodating. Tour experiences are noted positively as well, with tour guides characterized as friendly and informative. These consistent remarks point to effective front-office responsiveness and a helpful admissions/tour process. The recurring mention of staff being accommodating also implies flexibility and attentiveness to resident or family needs.

Facilities and amenities are described positively where mentioned. In addition to cleanliness, reviewers cite spacious parking and a nice neighborhood as tangible benefits. One review references a planned remodel, which readers framed positively — indicating management attention to improvements and investment in the property. The presence of remodeling plans can be interpreted as a commitment to upkeep and modernization, though details about scope or timing are not provided in the summaries.

Notable patterns and gaps: reviewers frequently recommend the community ("highly recommended") and several prospective residents are actively considering a move, suggesting strong word-of-mouth reputation. Another consistent theme is resident helpfulness — reviewers mention neighbors are "willing to help others," reinforcing the sense of community. However, the summaries contain no specific information on dining, organized activities, clinical or medical care, staffing ratios, pricing, or contract details. Because those topics are not addressed in the supplied comments, no conclusions can be drawn about meal quality, recreational programming, healthcare services, or cost/value from these summaries.

Concerns and caveats: the review excerpts include no explicit complaints or negative points, so there are no direct red flags. The only potentially ambiguous item is the planned remodel; while reviewers spoke of it positively, remodel activity can sometimes mean temporary construction noise or disruption — but none of the reviewers mentioned such impacts. In short, the reviews provided portray Oak Village Apartments as a clean, well-managed, neighborhood-integrated community with friendly staff and residents and a family-like atmosphere, while leaving several operational and service-area topics unreported.

    About Oak Village Apartments

Oak Village Apartments sits at 101 S 11th St in Marion, IA, and folks who are 62 and older can live there, and the building is three stories high with elevators so everyone can get around easier, and all units are one-bedroom with full kitchens, air conditioning, and electric ranges, so residents can cook and control their heating and cooling as they like, plus high-speed internet and trash removal are included with the rent, and all utilities get covered, which keeps things simple. The place has strict non-smoking rules indoors, so the air inside stays clean, and there's a free on-site laundry room that's open day and night and residents get one parking space included in the rent. The building is set up for wheelchair users and anyone else who needs extra accessibility, with features like senior-friendly bathrooms, an elevator for multi-floor access, and wide doorways, and there are outdoor and indoor common spaces where people can come together, relax, or go for walks. They let cats and dogs live with people, and there's plenty of grassy areas outside for pets too, and small pets are welcome.

Oak Village Apartments has on-site beauty and barber shops, so seniors don't have to go far if they want a haircut, and there's a large community room and a separate meeting room where folks gather for social, educational, or entertaining activities, plus a patio for sitting outside on nice days. Security is important, with a resident-controlled entry system and fire alarms throughout the property, and skilled, friendly staff are available at all times and can help with anything a resident might need, since there's 24-hour on-call maintenance and building upkeep is well respected for being clean and tidy. Supportive senior care options are tailored for anyone over 62, and the place has services for independent living, assisted living, memory care, and even skilled nursing or hospice if someone needs more help later on. They also have complimentary transportation for those trips to the doctor or for running errands, and mail comes right to the building.

The apartments work for those with low or very low income, since rent is based on about 30% of whatever you receive each month, and it's all part of a Section 8 (202) program for seniors, so folks don't have to worry as much about the cost of living there and affordable housing is available. It's close to downtown Marion, and parks like Thomas Park, Squaw Creek, and the Sac and Fox Trail City Park are nearby, plus there are over thirty restaurants close, two theaters, places of worship, and, importantly, five different hospitals for emergencies and plenty of pharmacies and doctors close by. Indoor and outdoor spaces help folks stay social, whether that's through scheduled activities, games, or just meeting for coffee, and the staff works hard to keep residents active in body and mind and feeling part of a real community, and they have awards for their helpful activities program and overall living. Oak Village Apartments helps seniors find the right floorplan for their life, and there's always something on the calendar, whether you prefer quiet time or active socializing, so it's a good option if you're looking to live simply, comfortably, and with nice people around.
