    About Bedrock Detroit

Bedrock Detroit sits at 630 Woodward Avenue right in downtown Detroit, in a building that was first built back in 1880 and changed hands in 2013, and over the years this old property has been restored by the architecture firm Neumann Smith in 2017, now serving as Bedrock's main headquarters, and when you walk in, you'll find a mix of street-level retail like Chipotle and some main offices, plus a top floor atrium that brings in a good bit of sunlight, and even a secret speakeasy tucked away. The company itself is privately held and employs somewhere between 501 and 1,000 people, all focused on property management, leasing, construction, and bringing life back to historic spaces. Bedrock Detroit owns and manages more than 90 properties, making up over 15 million square feet all across Detroit and Cleveland, and their portfolio mixes offices, retail stores, homes, hotels, parking, event venues, data centers, and even industrial sites, which is pretty unique, and over the years they've invested over $7.5 billion to restore and develop more than 140 buildings, many of them historic.

They do a lot of adaptive reuse, taking older places and turning them into something new with modern systems, security setups, smart building features like lighting and HVAC controls, and they've got in-house teams that handle everything from construction and leasing to finance and historic rehab, for both the inside and outside of their buildings. They've worked on mixed-use spaces, combining offices with retail, and renovated places to add things like atrium skylights and multi-floor upgrades, while keeping some historical details like stairway rails that look like an old Ford Model T windshield, using a "green gold" color scheme to honor Detroit's past. Bedrock Detroit has been involved in big projects too, like the 1.5 million-square-foot Hudson's Detroit development, which will include retail, office space, a luxury hotel, public plaza, a rooftop lounge, and condos, as well as The Department at Hudson's, offering 15 event spaces with features like terraces with heated floors, soundproofing, AV capabilities, and retractable seats.

Bedrock Detroit's focus is on bringing activity to the community, offering event spaces, supporting businesses with leasing options, and maintaining properties to keep them safe and up to date, all while trying to strengthen Detroit and Cleveland urban areas. They're affiliated with groups like the 2030 Districts Network and are a member of the Modular Building Institute. The company's been recognized as one of the world's Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company, and they've worked on signature developments, always trying to mix the old with the new in a way that keeps the city's history alive but gives people and businesses what they need today.
