    Clean comfortable one-bedroom with activities

I live in a clean, homey one-bedroom with a kitchenette (stove and refrigerator), full bath and my own heat/air. The staff are pleasant, friendly and patient, maintenance has been improving, and there's laundry on each floor. I enjoy weekly food deliveries, activities like bingo, a salon, computer room, and outdoor picnic/barbecue areas - I'm very satisfied and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer impressions of Ferndale Park Co-op are mixed, with clear strengths in amenity offerings and unit features alongside recurring operational and safety concerns. Positive comments emphasize outdoor social spaces, such as barbecue and picnic areas, an attractive exterior, and residential features like kitchenettes, in-unit stoves and refrigerators, individual climate control, and laundry on each floor. On-site programming and amenities—bingo, a salon, and a computer room—are noted as available and contributing to community life.

Care and staff impressions are variable. Several reviewers describe staff as friendly and patient and note acceptable quality of care in some interactions. At the same time, other reviewers raised concerns about staff punctuality and professional consistency and described delays in responsiveness. These mixed impressions suggest that resident experience may vary by shift, unit, or individual staff assignment; prospective families should ask about staffing patterns and response-time expectations.

Dining and activities appear modest but present: some residents receive weekly food deliveries, and communal activities such as bingo and outdoor picnicking are active parts of the program. The presence of kitchenettes and in-unit appliances indicates that self-catering is an option for many residents. Those who prioritize a full-service dining program should verify what regular meal services, if any, are provided.

Facilities feedback is split between well-maintained exterior and outdoor amenities and concerns about interior condition. Multiple reviewers cited ongoing maintenance work and some improvements, yet interior common areas and certain units were described as needing further upkeep. A persistent operational issue noted is unreliable elevator service, which has been associated with frequent outages; this has implications for mobility and emergency access. There are also sanitation-related concerns in some common areas that prospective residents should inspect during a visit.

Management and safety are recurring themes. Some reviewers perceive management as insufficiently responsive or communicative about maintenance and renovation projects, and there are concerns about transparency around remodeling activities. Reviewers also described a pattern of police and fire responses and referenced neighborhood crime, raising questions about building security and emergency-incident frequency. These observations point to a need to ask about security measures, incident logs, and how management communicates and resolves safety and maintenance issues.

Overall, Ferndale Park Co-op shows tangible amenities and household-level conveniences that appeal to residents who value social outdoor spaces and independent living features. However, persistent operational weaknesses—especially elevator reliability, interior maintenance and cleanliness, staff consistency, and management responsiveness—warrant careful due diligence. Recommended next steps for prospective residents and families include an in-person tour focused on common-area cleanliness, a review of elevator-maintenance records and service contracts, questions about staffing levels and shift coverage, clarification of dining services, and a discussion with management about recent and planned renovations and security measures.

    About Ferndale Park Co-op

Ferndale Park Co-op stands as an eleven-story apartment building meant for people aged 55 and older, and it's especially for low-income seniors, though some younger people with physical disabilities can also live here, and what you notice is every resident has a say in how the place is run because the community uses a cooperative model, so members vote on decisions and take part in things like officer training and meetings with lots of opportunities to lead and get involved, while regular amenities include a community room for gatherings, laundry facilities, a fitness center, and a private park with a walking path, and the building's non-smoking rules require smoking to stay away from the common areas and at least 25 feet from the entrance, and if you like walking to nearby places, there's a shopping center just steps away from the front door, which makes errands easier. Residents take care of their own personal assistance or bring in someone they supervise, since building management and staff don't provide hands-on care or supervision, but instead focus on handling property issues, support for social programs, and making sure accessibility features are in place, making this a good fit for people who want to stay independent but like having some support from a tight-knit community that's been recognized as a Communities of Quality Corporate Partner, and while you won't find a long list of detailed care services or fancy amenity names, what you do get is a straightforward, community-centered living option where everyone pitches in and looks out for each other in comfortable one- or two-bedroom apartments fresh from renovation.
