    Clean facility but severe neglect

I appreciated the spotless, pet-friendly facility, frequent engaging activities (they even held a Mardi Gras parade), and many nurses and caregivers who were attentive and caring. However I also experienced serious problems: medical and caregiver neglect, poor nutrition and health care for some residents, rude/unprofessional staff, and I was told about an alleged threat to kill a paralyzed resident. Staffing and hiring standards felt low and there may be attempts to cover up incidents - I am pursuing justice and will file a formal complaint. Minor issues: noisy roommate and disrupted visits; better privacy curtains and stronger oversight are needed.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Crowne Health Care of Citronelle present a strongly mixed picture. Several reviewers describe a high standard of daily care—calling staff attentive, friendly, professional, and respectful of residents’ dignity—while other reviewers report serious, even alarming concerns about specific staff conduct, neglect, and administrative shortcomings. Positive comments emphasize cleanliness, a lively activity schedule, and a pet-friendly, welcoming environment. Negative comments center on alleged mistreatment, potential safety and hiring issues, dining and medical care quality, and privacy disruptions.

Care quality and staff behavior: A sizable portion of reviewers praise the nursing and caregiving teams as attentive, caring, and respectful, noting that residents are well taken care of and treated with dignity. However, an equally prominent theme is severe dissatisfaction with certain staff members. Multiple reports use words such as "unprofessional," "rude," and "malevolent," and at least two reviews specifically identify two staff members in connection with negative incidents. There are allegations of caregiver neglect and of an alleged threat against a paralyzed resident; these are described as serious enough that at least one reviewer is pursuing justice and others plan to file formal complaints. Because these are allegations reported in reviews, they should be treated as claims requiring verification, but they represent a major negative pattern that potential residents and families should investigate further.

Management, hiring, and accountability concerns: Several reviews raise concerns about hiring standards and potential attempts to cover up staff misconduct. These comments suggest reviewers perceive weaknesses in management oversight and accountability. While positive reviews imply that many staff do their jobs well, the presence of specific allegations and statements about filing complaints indicate unresolved conflicts between families and facility administration. Prospective families should ask management about staff hiring practices, background checks, incident reporting procedures, and how complaints are handled.

Facilities, activities, and environment: The facility receives consistent praise for cleanliness and atmosphere in multiple reviews—terms like "spotless" and "clean, pleasant" appear more than once. Reviewers note a lively activities program, including a Mardi Gras parade and frequent, engaging offerings. The facility is described as pet-friendly, with cats and birds on-site, which is a plus for residents who enjoy animal companionship. These positive aspects contribute to an image of a comfortable, activity-rich community for some residents.

Dining and medical care concerns: Some reviewers indicate problems with diet and overall healthcare, labeling the dining and medical services as "poor." These criticisms contrast with comments praising attentive nursing, suggesting variability in quality across different service areas or shifts. Concerns about diet and clinical care are important to verify directly with management and through inspection reports because they impact residents’ health and well-being.

Privacy and roommate issues: A recurring but less severe theme involves roommate-related disturbances—noisy roommates disrupting visits—and suggestions for better in-room privacy (for example, installing privacy curtains). These issues point to opportunities for operational improvements that could enhance resident and family satisfaction without necessarily indicating systemic staff misconduct.

Conclusion and recommended next steps: The reviews collectively indicate a facility with many strengths—cleanliness, engaging activities, pet friendliness, and numerous caring staff members—coupled with serious, specific allegations of staff misconduct, neglect, and administrative lapses. The mixed nature of feedback warrants careful, fact-based follow-up by anyone considering this facility: ask management for details on background checks and staff training, request explanations and resolutions for any reported incidents, review state inspection reports and complaint histories, and, if possible, speak with current families and observe care during multiple times/shifts. Given the gravity of some allegations, families should treat negative reports seriously and seek documented responses from the facility before making placement decisions.

About Crowne Health Care of Citronelle

Crowne Health Care of Citronelle has been serving Alabama communities since 1986 under family-owned management, and it sits among a network of sixteen skilled nursing facilities spread across the state, so you'll find them in places like Citronelle, Monroeville, Atmore, and many other cities, all working to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and personal needs of residents. The Citronelle facility is licensed as both a nursing facility and skilled nursing facility, holding Medicare and Medicaid certifications and a state license, and it follows a model of care helped by nurses and trained staff who use personalized plans so each resident gets the right kind of support. The place has 69 beds with options for private or semi-private personal retreats, and it aims for a home-like feeling with comfortable common areas, living and dining rooms, an outdoor courtyard, and even a therapy gym for those who need to work on moving better or getting stronger after surgery, injury, or a stroke, and there's outpatient therapy too. Care services here cover both short-term and long-term stays, so whether someone needs skilled nursing care on an ongoing basis or just some help recovering for a bit, they'll have support for things like medication, IVs, wound care, tracheostomy care, sub-acute care, and therapy-occupational, physical, and speech-plus care for medically complex cases and memory loss such as Alzheimer's. For daily life, residents get access to free satellite TV and Wi-Fi, salon services if they want them, transportation help for errands or appointments, community outings to keep things interesting, and extended visiting hours that make seeing friends and family a bit easier, and with staff around for help with daily tasks, there's always someone to ask. Most private and supplemental or long-term care insurances are accepted, including self-pay, Medicaid, Medicare, and some HMOs, so there are quite a few ways to pay for a stay, and if someone wants smaller or bigger spaces, they can choose what suits them best. Staff run group activities, recreation, and there's always a focus on keeping things inviting and friendly, so folks can settle in for either a short recuperation or longer-term living in a safe and steady environment.
