    About Westport Rehabilitation Complex

Westport Rehabilitation Complex sits on Burr Road, and for a long time, it's been an older nursing home building that's really showing its age, sounds like it's from the 1960s and hasn't seen a big update in quite some time, but that's about to change. The place is under a new plan to shrink from having space for 120 beds down to 68 private, single rooms and not have as many shared, which would make life quieter and let people have a bit more privacy, as you don't see that with so many of the old places. Now, the plan calls for gutting the whole inside, redoing the brick on the outside and roof, and even moving some of those big mechanical things up onto the roof so they're out of the way. While the building won't get much bigger at the base, there are small additions to the second and third floors, and they'll fill in odd parts of the first floor for better use. The idea isn't just about looking nicer, either; they want to fix up the parking, improve the landscaping, and set up things so that neighbors aren't bothered, which is something folks along Route 1 care about since it's a busy area with houses right next door. Westport Rehabilitation Complex is getting rezoned so it can become a real memory care facility-what they're calling Care One Westport now-that focuses not only on nursing care but also on Alzheimer's and dementia care, and that means people with memory problems can get the help they need in an updated, secure environment. They'll still have all those rehab services like physical and occupational therapy, as well as palliative and hospice care, and short-term rehab for people who need a bit of extra help between hospital and home. Staff at the facility give attention to daily living support, making sure everyone gets a personalized treatment plan, so people struggling with their memory have care that fits their needs. There's nursing care for those who are frail, and respite care for short stays too. The building is close to hospitals like Norwalk and Silver Hill, plus there's pharmacies and churches nearby, so families can get what they need quickly. The plan is to protect the area's residential feeling and make sure the design improves the look of the business parts along the main road, while also meeting current housing needs for seniors.
