    Rushed discharge, antibiotic reaction, billing

I was sent home on oxygen after staff couldn’t find the source of my illness. An antibiotic caused an adverse reaction that wasn’t stopped promptly — the nurses and CNAs were excellent, but hospitalists pushed discharge without specialist input and a weekend hospitalist was rude and uncaring. ER care was good, but I received monster bills, got no financial help, faced aggressive collections and no insurance relief. Overall I felt inadequately cared for when sick; specialist treatment and fair billing are urgently needed.

About HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital

HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital sits in Sanford, serving people from Seminole and West Volusia counties with all kinds of healthcare, and, well, it's a busy place-a 221-bed hospital, though sometimes you'll hear it called 226 beds, offering emergency care through its ER that stays open all day, every day, and, they also have freestanding emergency rooms like HCA Florida Heathrow Emergency, HCA Florida Mount Dora Emergency, and HCA Florida Casselberry Emergency for folks farther out or those needing quicker help. You'll find a full range of medical specialties offered here, like orthopedic care, spine surgery, neurosciences, urology, vascular services, women's services, and weight loss surgery, plus they've got robotic surgery for more advanced procedures, not to mention imaging and diagnostic labs right on site. The hospital's known for its work in orthopedic surgery-winning America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery Award™ in 2024-and has also earned recognition for safety, patient experience, and infection control, including the Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ for treating COPD and pneumonia, so you know they pay attention to outcomes, especially for older adults who want peace of mind.

They're the only hospital in the area with a full-service cardiovascular program, covering everything from open-heart surgery to cardiac rehab, and they've got a Level II Trauma Center designation, so they're ready for the toughest cases, plus there's a Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission for stroke care. There's a steady pace of care here-about 8,800 admissions yearly, over 41,000 ER visits, thousands of outpatient visits and surgeries, and 1,073 births each year. You'll find plenty of specialized care: Cardiac ICU, Medical Surgical ICU, Pediatric and Neonatal ICUs, burn care, psychiatric services (including psychoanalysis), hospice, and rehab for people who need to heal after surgery or injury. Rooms stay clean and quiet, staff explain things clearly, and most patients say they feel comfortable and informed when they leave, so there's a sense the hospital really wants people to understand their health and next steps.

They provide pain management, orthopedic surgery-including knee and hip replacements-and they handle back, neck, and spine problems with attention to safety, receiving recognition for their low complication rates and no incidents of surgery items left in the body, which is a real worry for many folks. Advanced coronary procedures like angioplasties with stents show good outcomes, and infection prevention remains a big focus, so folks aren't dealing with added troubles. Women can get care for maternity needs, using their 23 bassinets in the neonatal unit, and there's care for everything from gastrointestinal to general surgery and gynecology, plus family resources like online appointment tools and access to records through MyHealthONE.

Facility ownership rests with a corporation, HCA Florida, and they keep a patient-focused culture, aiming to care for each person like family and providing programs and screenings to keep the community healthier, young or old. Safety and service ratings run near expected levels; for example, knee replacement gets certification from The Joint Commission, while internal medicine and advanced diagnostics cover day-to-day health concerns. With about 130 patients every day on average, the place hums along steadily, and while the Patient Experience Rating lands at 60%, a bit under the national average, the hospital does keep working to improve clarity and comfort, making it a solid option for those needing complex care or regular hospital services in the Sanford area.
