    Attentive professional kind care team

My mother is well cared for here - the nurses, CNAs and therapy team are attentive, professional and genuinely kind. Management and social services (Claudia and her team) are hands-on and responsive, activities and rehab are engaging, and meals and daily care feel supportive. I'm very satisfied and would recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Zahav of Berwyn present a mixed picture: many families praise the clinical skill and compassion of nursing staff and CNAs, as well as available rehabilitation services and active social-service/hospice coordination; at the same time, recurring operational concerns create variability in day-to-day resident experience. Positive accounts emphasize attentive bedside care, effective therapy programs, convenient visitation, and engaged leadership that responds to concerns. Several families described warm, family-like interactions and resident-focused events, and some noted clean, comfortable rooms and reliable meal delivery.

Care quality appears uneven. Clinical strengths include skilled nurses and committed CNAs who provide hands-on care and rehabilitation support. However, multiple reviews identify gaps that affect clinical outcomes: inconsistent wound-care and incontinence-care practices, medication-administration and physician-coordination lapses, and delays in answering call bells or attending to basic needs. Understaffing and high workload were frequently cited and appear to contribute to slower responses and variability across shifts. External hospice and social-work teams are sometimes relied upon to fill care or coordination gaps.

Dining and activities are described inconsistently. Some families report hot meals delivered to floors, celebratory events, and engaging activities, while others describe limited programming, meal mix-ups, and concerns about food handling and quality. Therapy and exercise sessions are available but may be intermittent. Prospective residents should expect variability in meal quality and activity frequency depending on timing and staffing.

Facilities and environmental maintenance are another area of divergence. Multiple reviews note sanitation and odor concerns, pest-control issues in parts of the building, and visible housekeeping or laundry inconsistencies. At the same time, other reviewers describe moderately clean spaces and ongoing renovation efforts. Common areas such as the dining and recreation rooms were described as cramped or in need of updating; visitors also mentioned periodic utility/service disruptions.

Management and communication practices vary between positive, hands-on leadership and weaker administrative responsiveness. Several families singled out engaged directors and social-service staff who resolved issues promptly, while others experienced poor front-desk communication, unanswered calls, supply shortages, and slow follow-up on family concerns. There are also reports of delays in handling sensitive post-mortem paperwork and allegations of missing belongings, which suggest weaknesses in administrative processes that merit attention.

Overall pattern: the facility demonstrates clear strengths in bedside nursing, therapy availability, and moments of strong leadership and family engagement, but these are offset by operational weaknessesโ€”notably inconsistent sanitation, staffing pressures, communication breakdowns, and maintenance shortfalls. These patterns produce highly variable experiences between families and across shifts. For families considering Zahav of Berwyn, an in-person tour that specifically addresses staffing levels, infection-control and housekeeping protocols, medication management, transfer-safety procedures, and plans for ongoing renovations is recommended. Ask management for current staffing ratios, examples of recent corrective actions, and contact information for the director of nursing and social services before making a placement decision.
