    About On With Life

On With Life sits on the Ankeny campus and helps adults and older adults recover from brain injuries, strokes, concussions, Parkinson's disease, complex neurological problems, or spinal cord injuries-the place has been open since 1991 and has served more than 2,500 Iowans and their families over the years, and the staff there knows neuro-rehabilitation well, with a team that focuses on helping people get back as much independence as they can, so there's a big focus on therapy like physical, occupational, and speech therapy. They offer post-acute inpatient rehab, outpatient neuro rehab, long-term skilled care, and neuropsychology services, plus day programs and respite services for people who need extra help, and supported community living options, as well as independent living at The Apartments of OWL Creek on the same campus, which means someone can move through different levels of care as their needs change. People here get medical and psychological support, with care customized to each person, and they'll work with folks recovering from traumatic brain injury, tumor, aneurysm, stroke, and other brain injuries-the staff works with adults, but there's specialized concussion care and independent evaluations for both adults and children or adolescents, and family support is a big part of their programs, with housing available for caregivers. The On With Life Academy offers learning opportunities, research, advocacy, and support groups, and there's professional development for those working in neuro rehab. They also offer telehealth rehab, so some services are available from home, and they run special centers for brain injury, stroke, concussion, Parkinson's, and other neurological conditions. People can visit any day of the week since the place is open 24 hours, and families can tour the inpatient facility or arrange to learn more about what care is available. On With Life's been accredited for three years, focuses on both medical care and recovery after brain injuries, and keeps a broad approach to therapy, daily support, housing needs, evaluation, education, and staff training. More information is available on their website, onwithlife.org, if someone wants to dig deeper into what they do.
