    About Willis-Knighton Extended Care Center

Willis-Knighton Extended Care Center, also known as Willis-Knighton Extended Care & Rehabilitation Center, sits on the campus of Willis-Knighton Medical Center near the intersection of I-20 and Hearne Avenue and serves people who need daily rehabilitation and skilled nursing after hospitalization, and you'll find the place has 24 certified beds and an average of 17 residents each day, which helps keep the patient-to-staff ratio pretty low, and you can see this in the 7.42 nurse hours per resident per day, which is a bit higher than most places, and although they've had a nurse turnover rate of 28.0%, you still see a pretty steady team of professionals giving care. The center mainly takes folks who have a high chance of returning home after a short-term stay, usually two or three weeks, as long as each patient is medically stable with all their diagnostics done and needs something like daily physical, occupational, or speech therapy. The place doesn't have Medicaid licensing but will take Medicaid as secondary coverage, and for those who stay, you'll find skilled nursing care, oral/IV/injectable medications on the ECC approved list, tracheostomy care, wound care (though no wound vacs), and specialized therapies for orthopedic fractures, joint replacements, decondition syndromes, and prosthetic training. You'll also find physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus behavioral and rehab programs, and it's all supported by the whole Willis-Knighton Health System, which is the largest in northwest Louisiana and offers a lot like urgent care, fitness centers, and specialty institutes, and features services like knee and hip replacement recovery, heart and vascular care, cancer treatment, women's health, pediatrics, MammoImage Center, breast centers, and radiation therapy. You've got a CHRISTUS Kids Clinic right there, so children needing therapy get help too, and it's connected to many social resources, like Meals on Wheels, homemaker help, personal care, respite for caregivers, legal services, resident advocacy, and the Aging & Disability Resource Center with things like Ombudsman support. Willis-Knighton Extended Care Center keeps communal spaces comfortable and open for healing and connection, and the focus is always on making a personal care plan for each resident, using modern electronic health records, and following strict policy not to discriminate based on race, color, national origin, handicap, or age, guided by a Director of Human Resources and a Board of Directors with an Advisory Council. The facility's never had any fines or payment suspensions, but recent health inspections on February 6, 2025 and March 12, 2025 did find two issues, one about care planning and one about nutrition, but both were at the level of "No actual harm, with a potential for more than minimal harm," and staff still work to meet dietary and care standards. The whole system's received recognitions like the Women's Choice Award® for healthcare quality, and patients get attention to safety, personal rights, and advocacy. Designed as a nonprofit, the Center limits itself to certain treatments, excludes some procedures, and makes sure financial and Medicare regulations information is available, plus they comply with all sections of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The setting's nicely decorated, aiming to be a good spot for recovery, and all programs are meant to get people back to daily life as best as possible.
