    Warm attentive staff, excellent therapy

I stayed here and had a very good experience - the staff were warm and attentive (Latasha, Nina, Stacey, Alisha, Ms. White and Steven W stood out), therapy (PT/OT) helped my mobility, and housekeeping kept my spacious room spotless and home-like. Meals were warm and varied and activities like exercise, bingo, live music and church kept me busy; I'd recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

FutureCare Good Samaritan elicits broadly mixed impressions across several domains. Many reviewers praised the handsโ€‘on caregiving staff and therapy teams: nursing assistants and some nurses were described as compassionate and dependable, and physical and occupational therapy were repeatedly credited with meaningful mobility and function gains. Housekeeping and general upkeep receive consistent positive mention, with multiple accounts of clean, wellโ€‘maintained rooms and common areas. Social programming is a clear strength โ€” offerings such as bingo, church services, live music, morning exercise and other activities were cited as contributing to resident engagement and wellbeing. Dining is described as varied, with many residents enjoying the meals and the option for different dining choices.

At the same time, a pattern of operational concerns appears in the reviews. Staffing shortages and inconsistent response times were reported, in some cases affecting timely assistance and incontinence care; several accounts referenced delayed staff responsiveness. Clinical communication and followโ€‘up from registered nurses and socialโ€‘work staff were described as uneven, which can complicate care coordination and family communication. Therapy effectiveness was variable: while many residents improved, others felt therapy did not meet goals or left them overly reliant on mobility aids. Administrative issues were also raised, including at least one substantial billing error and broader concerns about perceived value.

Facility management earns mixed comments. The facility leadership is characterized by some as personable and actionโ€‘oriented, and families noted instances of prompt, attentive care early in stays. However, administrative lapses โ€” especially in billing and in addressing some sanitation or residentโ€‘care complaints โ€” suggest opportunities to strengthen oversight and complaint resolution processes. For prospective residents and families: inquire specifically about typical staffing levels, responseโ€‘time expectations for personal care, how the facility documents and resolves billing questions, and the facilityโ€™s policies on resident movement or leave. Observing therapy sessions, asking for recent therapy outcome examples, and requesting an explanation of the sanitation and incidentโ€‘reporting processes will help evaluate fit for an individual residentโ€™s needs.

Overall, FutureCare Good Samaritan shows clear strengths in therapy, housekeeping, and activity programming, supported by many positive caregiving interactions. These positives coexist with operational variability in staffing, clinical communication, and administrative reliability; those areas warrant specific questions and monitoring during a placement decision and the early weeks of a stay.

    About FutureCare Good Samaritan

FutureCare Good Samaritan, which is also called FutureCare at Good Samaritan, sits right on the campus of Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, so you don't have to go far if you need hospital care or want to be near other medical centers like Sinai Hospital or Johns Hopkins Bayview. The building holds 146 certified beds and has about 107 residents as of the last count, offering both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care for folks with all sorts of medical needs. FutureCare owns and runs the place, connecting it to The Social Care Network platform and working closely with Alterwood Healthcare, so residents can access different health plans like the Alterwood Advantage HMO choices and Dual Secure options.

People there can get a wide range of care, from skilled nursing to complex therapy for things like stroke, amputation, heart trouble, breathing problems, and diabetes, with programs like STANDStrong for stroke rehab, WALKStrong for orthopedic rehab, BREATHEStrong for pulmonary needs, CAMPStrong for amputee care, and HEARTStrong for folks recovering from heart issues. Some residents need wound care or have limb issues, and an in-house wound team works with highly trained nurses and therapists to help with healing, while others might want memory support, early memory loss care, fall management, or pain management programs. Residents also get support managing their medicine, with pharmacy, lab, and radiology services all on site, and the place offers therapy in all forms, like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, through the VITALStrong program, along with telehealth and case management.

The building's open 24 hours every day, with nurse practitioners and doctors on staff around the clock, and it handles a bunch of things like IV therapy, management of PICC lines, ventilator and respiratory care, dialysis, tube feeding, therapeutic diets, and hospice services when they're needed. They keep the place ADA accessible and don't have any age restrictions, so admission works for younger adults with serious conditions, too. The grounds include simple amenities like a pond, and since it's an overnight care facility, room setups have beds and basic comforts, though as with all nursing homes, shared rooms are common.

For those caring about ratings, Medicare currently gives the facility a 3-star rating, which is average, and there's been a history of a lawsuit about bed sores, Renner v. Good Samaritan Nursing Center, along with a recent federal fine of $169,358. While many find the staff compassionate and the place friendly, it's important to consider that incidents have happened and to review the government ratings for the latest updates. Overall, FutureCare Good Samaritan aims to manage a wide range of health conditions in a setting with hospital support nearby and specialized rehab programs to meet different needs.
