    Compassionate care and welcoming atmosphere

I'm very pleased with the compassionate, professional care my family member receives - excellent nurses, therapy, administrative and kitchen staff have all been awesome. The home-like atmosphere, festive decorations and laughter in the halls make it warm and welcoming; daytime family visits and secure doorbell entry provide peace of mind. I'm thankful for the caring, helpful team.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Diversicare of Winfield present a highly mixed picture, with distinct strengths in therapy and some direct-care interactions but recurring operational and communication weaknesses. Therapy and rehabilitation services are frequently cited as effective; several reviewers explicitly praised physical therapists and the therapy department for helping progress during short-term stays. Multiple family members also described individual caregivers and nurses as kind or helpful, and some praised kitchen staff and seasonal decorating efforts that contributed to a home-like atmosphere in parts of the building.

At the same time, a number of consistent concerns emerge around basic operational reliability and clinical processes. Family members describe problems with timely communication, including difficulty reaching nurses or administrators by phone, delayed or missed notifications about incidents, and challenges coordinating with medical proxies. There are also repeated mentions of medication timing issues and inconsistent documentation or consent practices for testing and careโ€”areas that suggest the facility may need clearer protocols and better family engagement on clinical decisions.

Cleanliness, staffing responsiveness, and staff conduct are additional areas of variability. Some units and staff are described as attentive and compassionate, while other accounts point to sanitation concerns in rooms and bathrooms, unanswered call lights, and perceived lapses in staff professionalism or tone. The facilityโ€™s physical plant is described as older and sometimes crowded, with small shared rooms and at least one account noting an unsafe bathroom layout; these factors can affect privacy, storage, and perceived comfort.

Dining and activities show mixed reviews: some families complimented the food and kitchen staff, and seasonal decorations and on-site spiritual programming were appreciated, but other reviewers described inconsistent food quality and limited availability of snacks or in-room amenities. Safety features such as locked doors and controlled entry are present and appreciated by some families as a security measure, though they were also noted as inconvenient in certain situations when residents needed to exit without staff assistance.

There are a few serious individual claims in the feedback, including concerns following a residentโ€™s death and assertions about testing or treatments performed without proxy consent. These appear as isolated but significant issues and are worth direct verification through facility records and state inspection histories. Overall, the pattern is one of polarized experiences: some families report excellent care and meaningful improvement, while others report operational gaps that impacted trust and satisfaction.

For prospective residents and families: schedule an in-person tour at different times of day, ask detailed questions about staffing ratios and how the facility handles missed medications or unanswered call lights, request written policies on informed consent and family notification, review recent state inspection reports, and inquire about room assignments, cleaning schedules, and infection-control protocols. These steps can help clarify whether the facilityโ€™s strengths align with your priorities and whether the operational issues described in reviews have been addressed.

    About Diversicare of Winfield

Diversicare of Winfield sits at 144 Co Rd 14 with 123 certified beds and is managed by Eran Ratner since September 2024 and Janet Studdard since February 2017, running under Diversicare Healthcare and owned entirely by Diversicare Leasing Company Iii LLC. People here can get assisted living, nursing home care, home healthcare, short stay rehabilitation, hospice care, memory care, complex medical care, and long term care. Staff offer support for day-to-day things like bathing, dressing, meals made by a registered dietician, housekeeping, laundry, and help with medications which is helpful, plus there's 24-hour nursing care and specialized training for memory care, especially at Kemp Meadows Assisted Living which is a noteworthy part. There are private apartments and shared spaces where residents can gather, eat meals, and join in on daily activities, religious services, and recreation, and if someone wants to go shopping or see a doctor, transportation's available. While the place offers individualized care planning, companionship, and wants to build independence and well-being for folks, the nurse hours here are 3.01 per resident each day, which is lower than the state average of 3.9, and nurse turnover runs high at nearly 49%, a little above the state's average. The facility's had three recent deficiencies in inspections, with issues tied to infection control and a serious deficiency about protecting people from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, even though no actual harm was shown but the risk was considered more than minimal-this is important for families to know. They want to provide a comfortable and nurturing environment, offer a range of activities, and create plans to match each resident's needs, but the most recent public reviews rate them at 2.4 out of 8, which suggests some families and residents have had concerns, so that's something to weigh along with the care and services offered here.
